So i have Ohlins on the rear and racetech springs and emulators on the front (was going to change to catridges but trying to tune the emulators first) riding 2 up the bumps - manhole covers and usual sharp road bumps are smoother and better feeling - have the emulators at 3 turns with blue spring, 4 bleed holes drilled, 10wt oil racetech springs are 1.3 where should i start eg. are my springs too stiff i am 120kg and my partner 80kg

The 1.3 springs supplied by racetech were recommended by them for a 120 rider - the ride i get when i have a passenger is smooth as over ruts in road, concrete drain covers in road etc, but when im on me own i can feel every jolt - feels harsh

Just want that smooth ride when im on me own

Backing of blue spring 2 turns so ill only have 1 turn on emulator spring

Compression or Rebound - i have been thinking compression because its when i hit the bump

    How do you tell ????

From what i have worked out from reading my rear maybe on the soft side as i have very little sag with bike only 4mm

Preload rings are cranked about 3/4 of available  threads to get rider sag of 25mm

Would reducing fork preload on the current heavy spring give the same effect as leaving preload what it is now 20mm and replacing spring with softer one ????

Not exactly, the spring rate won't change on a single rate spring, you may get away with that spring if you can fine tune around it or it might be just too much for your taste, ride is a personal thing, some like it softer than others, I aim for plush but firm and use oil volume to control dive rate in the last part of the stroke, I don't know everything about it just what I've learnt from doing my own bikes in the past.

Ok ill reduce preload untill i get 32mm of sag - test ride then i not good ill reduce emulator preload by 1 turn

if i need new spring what should i get

also does increasing fork oil level aid in reducing brake dive

    my level in 130mm

Forget the question about the spring checked calculator on racetech 1.2 also did the valving search which gives me an oil level of 150mm

Mine is 130mm having the level that i have will it just stiffen the last part of fork travel

    Hilly,

Did you set fork oil level to use most of available fork travel

Did you drill additional bleed holes in the emulator

If racetech recommends 1.2 spring for me do i go with that or are thw racetech calculators on the stiff side

Just a quick rebound question based on comment made earlier - when i push down on centre of bars the bike comes up to a stop - but if i hold the front brake and push down when it comes back up it bounces (pogo) before stopping - which one is the correct test

OK - been reading the suspension bible suggested to understand everything better - the sag im about to setup to clarify the fork setup the bible mentions 30% of fork travel - Is the fork travel measurment the one with the fork caps off and forks compressed so 120mm or is the fork travel the max i can get the fork to travel under heavy stop 88mm

    40mm sag or 29.3mm sag

where does the 32mm recommended setting come from ????
