Anyone had this issue ? Starts Up and runs in N no prob, once on the road and lay on the power she barks loses power drops speed then I rev up picks up fr a bit and starts loosing power again. Changed out plugs mag the leads s t a coil issue? Checked the fuel pump all good any ideas ??

the way you describe it, it sounds like she's starving for fuel, or air , at higher revs.

it could be the coil, breaking down when it gets a bit warm , unusual to come good for a bit though.

Check the fuel filter.

lapua,, It could be a number of things, as mentioned above .. Have a look at tread a couple below this one in this section, (Ignition Upgrade on 88 FXSTS, Page 1)... I posted up info and pic of Crank Position Sensor ... This sensor was not applicable to his model bike, but is on later bikes ... This sensor failing can cause symptoms you are experiencing ..... Could be a gunked up/corroded ignition switch.

I've seen that quite a few times here in Perth due to the constant slightly salty seabreeze.

Carefully remove it from the top of the tank . flip the console onto a bath towel or similar and take out the wee screws holding it in

Soak it in a small container of WD40 or CNC or similar. Work the switch multiple times in the WD40 , and then spray grease with silicone or whatever

Also clean the male/female connectors.

You can take the whole switch apart , clean and relube with dielectric grease , but that's a bigger gig with wee springs allover the shop.

No cost for this , only labour and a wee bit of materials. There are multiple wiring connections hubbed from there and can give symptoms as you've described

 

Had similar was battery  terminal  bolt bottomed out tight but washer missing did strange things at various revs
