Breakout Battery

I've had my Breakout for over a year, got the 2015 model.

Everything was going swimmingly until I went on Holiday for three weeks...........I didn't leave my bike on charge, had Harley's for years and never had to.

Day off holidays the bike wouldn't start...........my crappy Corolla car fired up straight away

Got Harley assist out (great service) he jump started my bike and told me Dealer will have to check my battery out.

Dealer came back after supposedly running tests overnight and found no fault with the battery!

I was advised to buy a charger, ($60) which I did and now I hook it up to the power now and then.........

I ride my bike nearly everyday and do about 25ks a day, Harley dealer that's nowhere near enough to charge my battery up

Now when I've had it on charge everynight, in the morning it stuggles to fire up, I have to give it gas to get it fire up and it can take half a dozen attempts

Is my battery covered under warranty, I'm jack of this issue and I want a new battery fitted!!!

I also have issues starting my MY15 breakout. I've also had my battery tested by dealer and they have reported no faults

After having to clutch start it once, I've always kept it on trickle charge. I ride once a week so I cant do much else other than leave it on trickle charge.

If I were to get a new Battery I think it would suffer from the safe fate as my current one

Seems weird when it's left over night (I'm in QLD so not exactly cold) it struggles to fire up...........it won't fire up if I just keep my finger on Start, it gets close but no cigar

But late afternoon when I leave work it fires up no problem!!

Have you changed the plug leads to Screamin Eagle Phat leads by any chance?

I would be looking at starter motor, may need new brushes and the armature cleaned up, had to do this recently, starter was the last place I looked.

I would check your regulator working & also have load check on battery. sounds falty to me. trouble is if you try to make a battery last longer, it puts more load on regulator & alternator then you got more troubles.

tell dealer replace battery. a lot think cold weather hard on batterys, but heat is the killer!!! the softail has oil around there battery to add more heat. still put pressure on dealer as you get two year warranty, if they drag you along telling you all this you will run out of warranty & be up for more. new genuine battery is all i would take!!! keep at them.

That is bad luck, still got the original battery in my 2008 softail. Use a trickle charger that gets changed between 4 bikes every coupla days. However didn't get the charger until a year and a half of getting the Harley. Bought a new battery for wifeys bike one day....It was completely dead the next day. Ignition was not left on or anything, the battery just died an instant death. Took the battery back to Battery world and they replaced it no problems, been fine ever since.

The trickle charger cost only about 70 bucks, well worth it.

Take the battery into battery world or similar (NOT your dealer) and get it load tested.
Sounds munted to me, have you checked the voltage on the battery when running?

Well it seems they can't find a fault with anything!

One thing that does shit me though is they still say I need to plug my bike on a trickle charge 'whenever' it's not being used.

I personally find this nuts, I'm used to plugging my iphone in all the time but I can't be arsed to plug my bike in as I don't leave it in the Garage that much

They still claim 25kms a day is nowhere near enough to charge up the battery

On a positive note I had the heavy breather fitted and it's awesome lol

I leave my Fatty sit for 4 weeks without it being connected to a charger, never had an issue with it not starting. Sounds like you may be getting the run around. Is there any one else that can do a check for you
