Brake Pads

    Hi All

I have a 2007 Road King with Dual Discs up front.  Its only got 8000 kms and still has the original pads on it.  It stops hard enough and I am not looking to upgrade my Calipers or rotors or anything.  I was wondering if there might be a better brake pad out there to improve the stopping.  The brakes front and rear just dont work nicely if that makes sense.  The back doesnt feel strong and then locks up the second you press just that little too much.  The fronts, although plenty of stopping power are noisey and just feel harsh.  Anyway, was wondering if any of you blokes had the same experience and whether you have tried different brands of Brake Pads for your bikes.  I wouldnt mind spending more and replacing pads more often if a different compound pad would make the feel of the brakes better.

Appreciate any thoughts you might have.

    Hey

Thanks Guys.  Gees I wish I had these forums 25 years ago when I was building basket cases and had no idea what i was doing !

Just one question.  Am I imagining the disc brake issues or have you blokes experienced similar experiences?  Ill be honest.  Have ridden a heap of bikes over many years.  Have had my King about 6m months and recently had my first high speed Emergency Stop.  The backs locked up twice in a 90kmh power stop with the ass end swaying and moving all over the place.  Scared the shit out of me.  Have been was agin pretty disappointed with the OEM braking gear.  HD's have their quirks and areas where quality is sacrificed for cost and as a biker I understand that.  I enjoy researching, tinkering and making my bikelook and perform better.  But with the brake technology out there nowadays there is no reason any of us should have to compromise because an OEM is not engineering brakes to work at their best.  I will but I shouldnt have to change brake pads on a relatively new bike to stop properly.  I hope someone from the MoCo is reading.  Ill get off my high horse now.

    Thanks Gidgi
    Ill look into it.
I hear what your saying Pauly and I get that I dont have a latest model with ABS and all that. Was probably still a bit shaken up by the whole thing. I guess what I was trying to say is I believe the OEM pads were the problem and you guys suggesting much better ones verified that the stock ones could be better. That is my point. With 4000 kms on the bike I shouldnt have to replace brake pads because they are inferior on a motorcycle. They should be the best they can be from the factory. Maybe I'm just too fucking pedantic as I get older. Working in Manufacturing and riding most of my life the new world of safety has hit home with me. Ive lost mates riding and colleagues working. I wont cut corners anymore at work or with my ride. Ride Safe Brother
