CV Carby on 88' FXSTS

Just wondering if anyone can tell me if the 88' FXSTS had a different CV Carby fitted to it? (The 88' Springer wasn't unvieled till half way through 1988 and I don't know if that made a difference Carby wise)

I've got a workshop manual for my bike and it shows 2 different Carbs in it, and the one that it says is for my bike is different from the one fitted to my bike, in that the carb on my 1988 bike is definitely a CV Carby but has a 'Block' type float in it and not the one shown for the CV Carb with two 'Round' shaped floats on each side of the float?

Problem I have is that the float level measurements that they give in the manual don't look right for the 'Block' type float in my carb. The picture in the manual shows that when the float level is adjusted correctly that the float itself is almost horizontally aligned with the mounting face of the float bowl, and if I adjust mine to the spec that they give in the manual my float is sitting at an angle of about 20+deg up towards the body of the carb, and I've noticed since I've owned the bike that the exhaust has been pretty black all of the time, and I'm wondering if this is because the float has been set incorrectly?

Have included pics of the Carbs from the manual, any help as to what I should set the float level at would be much appreciated.

Thanks Dave and my CV carb has a chrome top with "Harely Davidson Motorcycle Company" impressed into it in a circle on the top, and yes you could very well be right about it being retrofitted to the bike, as the bike has 'Silver Performance Heads" fitted, maybe the carb was upgraded because of the heads? Anyway it seems to work well except as I said about the fact that it seems to be running rich, as I said the exhausts are pretty black and when I pulled the spark plugs they were the same, I've just ordered a new Air Mixture Screw for it, one that has a knurled adjustment knob on it to make it a bit easier to adjust. After I cleaned the carb I noticed that the engine had a slight hesitation when accelerating from idle, from my experience with carby cars this is usually an air mixture problem, I hope the harley is the same and it's just the air mixture adjustment.

Will post a pic of the carb as I'm going to pull it off again to change a broken choke cable, will disassemble it and take pics of internals and maybe you can help me identify what it is?

    Thanks again for the help!
