    Hi All

I am interested in blackening out my front forks on my sportster , has anyone out there done this ? how did you do it ?

I looked up prices and fuond that RSD was a joke asking for $180 AUD for hollow metal covers.

is it possible to black chrome the fork legs or will this scratch away ?

Thanks for the info gents .

Independant 84 i think those for tubes are for sports bikes and they are the outer part of the tube , so it wont scratch .

on the sportys the fork tube goes into the lower fork casing , which might make it scratch, correct me if I am wrong

apparently DLC coating is the way to go

I recommend any coating is going to scratch over time. If the tubes are coated they will need to be sized right so that the OD remains the same as the units they are replacing. It all seems to be a LOT of work for very little return.

Hi mate, I presume you are talking about the fork external legs. Why not just get them painted or powder coated?

not the external , they are already black , im talking about internal tubes. in the states they are Dimond like coating, stronger and harder than chrome .

    looks pretty awesome

    Hi mate,

How do RSD covers work, can't follow how do the fork legs take them? The black tubes do look good but shit a fair bit of work, why not just put black gaiters on and vinyl rap the top bit or go to a wreckers and find some upside down forks of a GSXR or something that has black (or Gold) legs and sliders, seen one done on this site somewhere, sorry can't find it but looked awseome (his were off an R1 I think). Probably cost a bit more but at least you get decent suspension as well?

    Cheers,

    Howard

very true Howard , I was going to put progression mono shock cartridges in them . I might look into the sports bike suspension as an upgrade , might take a bit of modifications to fit on on i think

Tried again to find the link bu still can't. He reckoned it was pretty straightforward and cost effective. I'll try again tonight, have a feeling I posted and he posted some details back.

    Cheers,

    Hi mate found it,

    http://www.hdforums.com.au/Default.aspx?tabid=71&forumid=1&tpage=107&view=topic&postid=108446#630999

Its from Pil on page 107, go to his Pics, Black forks bit silver sliders at the bottom. I'm sure some GSXRs had the black finish, so if you can fit R1 forks you should be able to fit GSXRs. Know you can as when looking for mine a guy over her was selling one with GSXR forks but wanted more than I could afford.

    Cheers,

    Howard
