Iron Headlamp globe replacement

Has anyone recently put a new globe in their 883 or 48 headlight such as LED, Zenon, or HID without having to replace the whole headlight assembly.?

The stock H4 is absolutely rubbish. When I'm riding home at night on our highway which is unlit for very long sections, the maximum throw of the headlamp at low beam is a mere 12m which is much less than my actual stopping distance to hitting wildlife or any other obstruction on the road even if my reaction time was 0.0msec. Makes you wonder how Harley were able to get the standard bulb past Aus safety road laws.

Anyway, any suggestions? I want bright and far reaching on both low and high beams.

Try the Philips 100w globe, get a ceramic plug

Careful going too bright. One of my mates put a 90w Phillips (sorry, can't remember the model) in his low rider and it fried the wiring. The heat output was too much.

LED replacement is a good option and HogLights offer a good quality, cheaper alternative to the Daymaker, JW Speaker, etc. With a 3 year warranty. Have a look at HogLights.com.au for more info or feel free to ask me here.

    Cheers!

i fried out the ceramic plug i used, all the main harness was fine

i removed the ceramic plug, put 100w globe in OEM main harness to get me home

when checking bike during the week i noticed my ground wire on triple tree had disconnected, not sure if this contributed to the burn out,

fixed ground wire, put 100W globe back in now, see how it goes

The problem with a 100w globe is battery drainage. I'd say you'll need a trickle charger to keep the battery charged
