Doesn't appeal to me either. Triumph would be my second choice next to Harley, but not that look.

Don't you think they have done a good job on water cooled motor? i can't see the radiator.

HD will have to go water cooled soon too. i still think Panheads look the best!

I like what Triumph has done with these bikes, especially the smart'ish upgrades on their own style of bike; trying to respect their past with modern upgrades. Saying that, I checked out the Thruxton last weekend in Sydney and while it was impressive in the flesh, I just don't dig the Cafe Racer style. I can't work it out. I'm interested in checking out the next Speed Triple but again, that style isn't what I think about -- it's all HD for me.

Below is a para from Cycleworld online about how much work Triumph went to to hide the water cooling kit. Interesting to think if HD is considering this sort of thing for most of its range in the future. Up for debate, who knows...

'You have to look no further than the cooling system to see the lengths to which Triumph went to make the machines look right. While the engine is conventionally liquid-cooled, with full water jackets around the cylinders and valve seats, it is finned as heavily as an air-cooled engine, and the fins actually provide significant cooling, allowing a smaller radiator. Water is routed internally in the engine to two central ports, right on the bike centerline, that plug directly into a skinny radiator in front of the engine that masquerades superbly as an oil cooler. The radiator cap is remote and hidden. You have to look hard to find the fan hiding low on the radiator. No one has built a water-cooled bike that has more successfully masqueraded as its air-cooled predecessor.'

Well i like Harley, but i don't like how they just keep putting on weight getting a larger motor but don't perform out the box.

Not saying that Triumph would perform i don't know much about it but the new bikes have to meet the new imission standards. HD will have to go water cooled to start making some power to match the engine size.

I kick started my mate's 65 panhead the other week & loved doing that!! that old Pan sounds heaps better looks heaps better than the new one's, how would you feel buying a new HD and riding it in public with the stock pipe they come with?

The Triumph Retro range is long overdue for these upgrades and WOW Triumph has done a fantastic job.

HD need to lift their game as parts-bin upgrades (Slim S, Fatboy S) or a new colour does not hide the fact that they are falling behind the innovation game. Indian, Victory, Ducati and now Triumph are all raising the bar and HD need to get with the program. Case in point - HD shares in the US have fallen considerably in 2015 and the MoCos answer - raise the marketing budget! The problem is not a marketing issue - its a product issue! New riders (and older ones like me) wont more than a cool looking ride (one that has a modicum of tech would be nice).

Having said all that i have a couple of HDs and recognise their weaknesses and strengths. My 2014 Street Bob special is the best, most balanced HD i have ridden.

Come on MoCo - you can trade off tradition for so long.

I agree Rodders & BB, I think the RE look's good too, but the engine would not give me that strong thrust forward i need when i open the door to let the air in!!!!

but as alway's would need to ride one in all conditions, like open road, twisty's mountains then Sydney's Parramatta rd peak hour on a hot day. to see if it's going to do the job!  But doubt any dealer would give me a test ride like that!

I like 'em, though my cafe racer days are long gone. I will be interested to see the new 1200'Bonneville as I used to own a T100 in 2005. But...... For my money, gimme a good second hand Sportster and $5,000 to throw at it and I know that I will have a better bike.

I'd probably have a Triumph if I couldn't afford a HD but I'm not sure I like the liquid cooling on the new motor.

Geoff, look at the picture above, you can't see the radiator. only reason i don't like water cooled bikes is the look. but the water cooling is an advantage. HD will have to do it very soon too. look how HD does it ( V Rod) hope HD can do water cooling & keep it looking like air cooled. just won't be simple to work on motor like air cooled is. but the Twin Cam has a throw away bottom end, not like Real HD motors that can be fully rebuildable and last indefinately.

Krash I admit they've done a good job with making the water cooling less obvious (much better than the prototype picture that was doing the rounds a while back) but I prefer air-cooled bikes for more reasons than just looks.

Often the water cooling acts to reduce the noise from the motor (not exhaust, the actual bits in the moving moving around and making noise).

I like to hear the bits moving in the motor (yeah I know... I'm showing my age).

Dunno about the thruxton. I think Im Just not a cafe fan. Dont know much about the new Triumphs at really. Wondering about reliability and performance ? Had a look at their website and was surprised that I did like both the Thunderbird styling and its big parallel twin and also the smaller air cooled America. Hopefully reliability has moved on with time. My older brothers rode Triumphs and BSA's in the 60's when I was very young. Used to love just hanging out while they worked on them with their mates. I guess they gave me the Bug to ride and do my own wrenching. When I was old enough there was no question I was going to ride a Harley even with their influence.
