I am obviously a bit thick... I can't work out how you can buy a 2016 motorcycle when it's 2015... did I miss a year.

I am sure a number of people on this forum would be into American muscle cars.  What drives me crazy is reading ads for car (like early Corvettes) and the seller says (for example) it has only done 60,000 klms (because the odometer says 60,000) but it is really 60,000 miles which would be 100,000 klms... if you ever buy an imported American car (muscle car) watch that one.

The last week of May each year, HD start to make the following years bikes. They are then released in September as next years models. Hope this explains it.

Its not a problem with bikes , I did'nt understand it either till it was explained to me basicly if they wait till 2016 to start producing bikes for that year by the time there made , shipped here ect ect , they would only probably have 6 months to sell them bikes before its 2017 hence they make them early ,, example , i just bought a bike in oct complianced in june 2015 i think it is (without going to check ) . My mate bought the same model on the same day , his was complianced in sept , i think ,,, But his bike is a 2016 mines a 2015 , Only difference , i paid $20 800 ,, he paid $24000 ,, Mine was obviously a get rid of it deal before they stock the new ones ,, we bought on the same day he had to wait 3 weeks for his , mine was in the shop begging me to buy it ... I thought long and hard about re sale , then thought bugger it if you use the bike in 3 years given they have over 30000 klm on them both will be worth nothing anyway ,,, If you don't use it like he won't , just store it and polish it his will still only be worth 2-3 grand more ..

Cars are different they ( dealers )don't seem to honor anything with cars , a car complianced in november 2015 is always a 2015 , don't get them mixed up with cars .
