Hi Rind,
the number plate needs to run horizontal and should be visible from either side of the bike rear.
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/design/adr_online.aspx
This will give you the national ADRs that you need to comply with. Motorcycles are group L Vehicles (LC for anything faster than 50 kms per hour).
Some great info in there, but it takes a bit of a read. The summary document is key to seeing what applies.
We were recently going through an RTA inspection and one thing they specifically pointed out was that the side mounts are one of the first thing they knock back. Having said that, I know of several bikes locally that run around with them......how much attention would you like?
Cheers
Mick
I got heaps of points.... would one of these be out of the question? I have brake/tail combos.... but would the number plate light (led) do?
Feels like a stretch even with the horizontal flip option....

Thats what I was thinking.
...and I love talking to coppers ...its all about the education
Being a truck driver i get to deal with the RTA & cops regularly. You here the smart arses on the radio
boasting how they told them to get fucked etc & for some reason they walk away with a hand full of defects & fines
(go figure).
Ive found if you talk to them like a human being without being a complete suckhole you tend to walk
away unharmed. But in saying that some of them are nothing but blood sucking maggotts & it wouldnt
matter how you spoke to the parasites.
gidday cruisin , can see you found your yin + yan ,
But did they pull you over for just that? Or to check several things?
The first, I believe was just for the side mount. After a chatting to him a bit about the bike he breath-tested me and sent me on my way. The other time I give it a squirt cross a intersection and he pulled over to me warned me that the bike was to loud and also said the plate had to be move. I agreed and he left it at that. I let him have his say, made out like I agree with him and that I would make the changes and left. Didn't change the bike!
After years of being pulled up for driving like a dickhead, I found if you be polite, don't be a prick, if they are going to give you a ticket , wear it, don't piss them off and cope two.
