New sportster owner

    Hi all,

Posted on the new owners page a while ago but not on the sportster page so thought I should as most forums seem to just cater for big twins.

Bikes nearly finished, will she ever be? So been for a few rides, and with the mods Black Betty now stops , goes over bumps without bottoming, sounds and goes great and the tank lift and coil and ignition relocation look great (corny I know, but in my eyes looks great anyway, though might modify and drop to 1 or 1.5 inch). No idea about how to post pictures (old cunt) so if anyone wants a look go to http://danddexhaust.com/gallery/sporty-bob-cat-chrome.

So what next? If I sell the house and become trailer trash why not an 88 inch kit, which I will hardly ever use in anger, but for those few seconds I do, fuck will it be a blast or become trailer trash, keep Betty and buy a Lowrider to keep "she-who-must-be-obeyed's" arse  happy? Trailer trash looks good.

Got to say thanks to Ando for putting her all together.

    Cheers,

    Howard

PS I think I might have put photos up, but who knows I am an old cunt

PS Anyone want to buy some black V&H short shots? Nearly new sell for half price. "She-who-must-be-obeyed" wanted chrome, I wanted a two-into-one, she said she'd pay half, but surprisingly haven't seen any cash. D&Ds cost nearly 1600, short shots are around $800 so if anyone wants them for half price she only owes me $400, which I might get.

    Cheers,

    Howard

She looks great Howard. The bike, not she who must be obeyed....Your chrome 2 into 1 exhaust looks great and will be far better for mid range than the short shots. Great effort! TC

Looks reeeeal nice mate. Lost much range with the tank lift? It's something I've been considering for a while and that's the only thing holding me back.

You should list out the rest of your mods I reckon!

    Thanks for the compliments guys.

Without any tuning the pipe is already noticeably giving more power in the low to mid-range, so after a few rides and tunes should be a ripper, also sounds so much better. As far as the tank rise that's a question I asked Kinetic and they claimed makes hardly any difference, which from looking at the level of the tank and where the filler is I'd say they are spot on, but as I haven't measured range before and after can't say for sure. But I would reckon only a few ks in range lost, and I mean a few, but if you have to push for 10ks that's a fucking shitload!

Regarding mods see below with approximate Au$ costs.

    D&D Bobcat - 1550
    Progressive cartridges - $350
EBC floating wave rotor - $200 (I think)
    XR1200 caliper - $250
    HEL braided line - $100
Kinetic tank lift and ignition and coil relocation - $170
GAZI fully adjustable remote reservoir shocks - $850

Alloys of an Iron - $200 (+ my wires)
Michelin Commander IIs front and rear - $650

    Forward controls etc already done.

    Cheers,

    Howard

    Hi guys,

A ride would be good! And as I said after a ride their are always beers in the fridge and a barby that can be used.

Also you'll probably have to wait for the old fart as I'm still trying to get used to forward controls. Nearly there, but really slow corners and all the way round roundabouts, you'll have a laugh! Fuck, 40 odd years riding and can't control a sportster.

    Cheers,

    Howard

Thanks for the compliments Cuey. Will definitely let you know when heading that way for a ride, and noctm good idea.

Cuey, what Hammer kit have you got, 1250, 88 or 90. Once used to forward controls seriously thinking about a kit.

With cams etc round $1500 for 1250 and $5000 (US!) for 88 delivered. 88 then needs more work for instal than 1250 (case bore throttle body etc). Are either worth it, i.e. how much bang do you get for your buck. 1250 kit seems reasonable and could afford in two or three months (by which time I should be well used to forward controls and roundabouts!), 88 seems desirable would but take way longer

    Cheers,

    Howard

I am stoked with my Hammer power, it's the 1250 100+ HP kit. Yet to be dynoed, but with the power to weight ratio, I can't imagine needing more power for a street ridden sportster.
It bounces off the rev limiter way to easy. I'm fitting a 32 tooth front pulley this week when I get home, will be interesting to feel the difference that makes.
If you decide on the 1250 kit, make sure you get the heads done as well.
I have no experience with the other kits.
The 1250 kit is an easy DIY project, so you can save on workshop costs as well.

Thanks for the info Cuey. What pistons and cam did you go with and who did your head work?

It's all by Hammer 30 degree reverse dome pistons, 560 thou cams, Smash head work with 1.76 / 1.53 valves.
