So, where duz u mount ur GoPros?

Helmet's out (at least in Vic) and I'd be thinking handlebars would be shaky since the Streetbob vibrates a touch?  So where's the best place?

I bought the suction cup mount, put it on my front fender. Worked a treat. The suction is really strong. I use it on my bike and kayak. Takes really crisp photos, and the filming was crystal clear aswell.

I don't think I could trust the suction mount.... But maybe if I use a lanyard to be sure? Ty for the inpput.

Another vote for the suction mounts, when I first got one I used it on the inside of my car for a few weeks to test it before putting it on the bike, definitely one of those things you don't want to buy the cheap version of though (like a waterproof case, learned that the hard way).

I used to use mine on my helmet, but I couldn't be bothered editing the footage and thinking about it while I ride, just enjoy it in the moment I say

Weird, I would have thought a suction mount would have been everyone's last choice. You live and learn :) I have a suction mount somewhere too. I just thew it in a box thinking I'd probably never use it.

On the Ultra you cannot bar mount the Go Pro so limited to the front of the Fairing, engine guard (bit Low), or top of Guard, I tried sticking a Go -Pro
mount on the front of the shield but it vibrated that much it lasted 500k then snapped, if it wasn't tied on I would have lost it, big rap for the RAM mount
in the states so I now use that and the suction is terrific so far.

I was looking at my Gopro today (quick look) wondering where you'ld tie the damn thing onto... I presume you keep it in the waterproof case? But even then I didn't see an obvious attachment point.

Leave it in the case mate. I found the app on phone/ iPad is the easiest way to use it too. I had a nightmare going through all the menu cycles.

I have just been given a Sony action cam and started experimenting a bit on the FXSTS.

Handlebars are easy but the vibrations were quite evident in the footage. Can also face camera back.

Rear footpeg facing forwards - stable footage but every time you put your foot down you block the view, Would be OK for editing. Can also mount camara facing back.

Frame downtube down low. Good view (get that funky wheel rotating backwards action going on) but camera is vulnerable to rocks etc.

Forward control bracket (just inside the footpeg).

Looking at cable tying a mount below the number plate and hanging the camera at the back looking forward,

    Cheers

I have an Electra Glide and couldn't figure out where to safely put mine, I tried various positions and ended up buying the chest mount and once I edited for the first time I realised that all I could see was the instrument cluster, bingo, had a brain wave and sat it over the windshield by stretching the chest mount around it. It works a treat and now I can see if it's about to go for a fly.

Man there's some creative solutions in here :)

I loaded up the provided GoPro software and decided to bin that shit. I've had a few suggested alternatives so I'll start checking them out.

I have several ways to mount mine but the one I most prefer is the clamp on the handlebars,I can easily turn the camera on and off as I want.

It has a lot of lense wobble though, but the biggest issue is getting a clamp that handles handlebars over one inch.

This can also be taken off quickly and placed on the footpeg or engine guard at will and handles larger handlebars.

I dont use a GO pro but a SJ4000 which is a gopro copy, however all fittings are the same and obviously a lot cheaper.

I use my two cameras as dash cams as well and take them out of the vehicles when I need to use on the bike.

I also have a chest mount, shoulder mount, can go on my helmet, and also a head mount I use when I do work videos.

    Folks.
Just an update to my attempts in "Member wants a tourer" to fit my go pro to a 2014 Ultra.
Thought this would be a better topic heading.

The ram mount on the right hand bolt of the fairing didn't work out. Well.. it did work but there was just too much vibration at any speed.

I thought about removing the centre fairing bolt. Drilling a hole in a quick release stick on mount but the bole would have fouled the very fine little tracks on the mount.

I took the bolt out (which is quite a lot longer and mounts into some metal frame in the fairing) and saw that it fitted a standard GoPro tripod mount worth about $30.
I got another bolt. Cut it (about a cm longer than the original) so that it was threaded on both ends, and screwed it into the centre fairing mounting. I found some old rubber grommet as there is a little fouling with the shape of the fairing.

Took it for a run yesterday. I fitted the camera with the LCD Backpack to try it out. Viewing the footage at home, the video was considerably more stable. That was at 720 Med FOV @ 25fps. I used external USB power run from the "cigarette lighter" through the fairing vent. The casing has adapter holes in the side so not weatherproof at this stage. I also fitted a tether looped around the metal rod in the casing
I'm going to try for higher res / frame rate and wider FOV today. And remove the backpack to lighten the camera. I will report.
Anyway. Pictures speak louder than words

OK folks. Very happy with the camera mounted here. It is very stable. Recorded trip back from Goolwa today. 1080 @ 25fps W. Quite a good picture. Had it set to loop over 60 mins. That seemed to work OK as well. ie it takes 5 x 15  min segments and overwrites the last. If nothing untoward happens, I delete all footage and I'm ready to go again for the next ride. Regards Steelo
