Servicing cost XL1200C

My bike is due for the 45 K service.

So I called my local HD dealer, and they advised it was over $500 for the service, maybe I am a cheap skate, but my 4WD costs less to service then that.

I am fairly mechanically minded, and thought it might be OK to do my own service.

    Questions.

    • Where do I order parts from, it's running a stage 1 I believe, so I need a oil filter, air filter and the in tank fuel filter?
    • Any special tools required?
    • Any tricks and traps to be aware off?

Get ya self a manual if you havent already got one.
By mine the in tank screen filter should have been done in the 40k service so not due until 80.
    The rest looks easy.

Anyone with the mechanical aptitude of a pumpkin can service these things.

I'll be that guy and say read the service manual, but also have a look at "dalboys garage" on youtube, he is good at explaining the basics of sporty maintenance.

It's really easy, and the satisfaction of doing it yourself (not to mention saving a lot of $$$) is worth it.

If you need help sing out.

Going back through the service book your next service is due at 48k not 45k

    Thanks for the replies.
I bought it from a dealer just over a year ago, with 38k on the clock.
I spoke with the dealership the other day, as the time is up, and they said the fuel tank filter was not done at the last service, which was just before delivery etc.
Hence the KM's are a little mixed up.
I will have a look at the air filter as I don't think it's stock, and make a list of stuff to order

I have the blue owners manual that came with the bike, and have also downloaded the 2010 manual online.

She runs sweet, but I want to keep it that way.

Thanks again guys, pretty sure I will have more questions this weekend, once I have worked out what parts to order etc..
