Did the owner get another bike, GT?
When I had my Sportster (bought privately) I took it down to Bike Works in Adelaide if things needed done to it... they were great... Earlier this year I bought a new Breakout from HH in Adelaide... Richard (The salesman) was great and I have dropped off the bike in HH service department a couple of times since (First service one time and some adjustments for the second time) and I have been happy with the service... had no problems with both places.
It's a rather soul destroying exercise finding out what a dealer thinks your pride and joy's worth. Although you have to be realistic about what your ride is worth, it's a kick in the Arsenal when someone quite laconically explains to you even though you've spent a large chunk of your hard earned as well as a helluva lot of blood sweat and tears, you still only own a 2001 Heritage. That's where the conversation ended, not necessarily on my part, but the salesmen must become so blasé about tire kickers asking questions about something they only ever dream about, that they don't seem to give a rats arse. Don't know too many of us that are cashed up enough to just walk into a showroom and drop $30 g without some kind of negotiation regarding what's needed to close a deal. Are these guys so smug that they know there's no competition for their product, and sooner or later, some wealthy individual will just walk up and drop the cash into their lap? Standard response: advertise it on Gumtree for what you think it's worth and hope someone falls in love with it enough to agree on a figure. Gee whiz, mr salesperson, thanks for nothing! Oh well, I have another stealership to investigate in town now, so we'll see if there's any difference in attitude between the two. I live in hope!
Had my first visit to Adelaide Bike Works on Friday and couldn't believe the difference between the 2 dealerships. This is a purpose built building catering for everything a Harley bike rider could conceivably want. But the people. They are the ones that make any business, and these guys were so friendly and informative, that my two experiences with differing companies were like chalk and cheese!. Would you like a test ride? How long do you want it for? (Is riding to W.A. a little bit too cheeky !) it seemed nothing was too hard. Ordered some parts just to feel out how these guys operate and walked out with a lot of ideas and can't wait to go back and have another squiz. The dark side is looming, Tourers are getting under my skin.
