Scratch repair

    Hi all,

Evidently having the missus accidentally drag a bag of groceries over your six week old HD fuel tank is not a good thing. Luckily, the scratch only seems to be in the clear cost and is about five inches in length (as per the pic - the scratch is to the left of the reflected light)). Running my finger nail over it, I can only just feel the scratch so I'm hoping for a bit of an elbow grease solution.

I'd be grateful for advice on how to remedy the situation. I've looked in the HD range and their light scratch remover only has average reviews. Previously, I've had luck with Maguire's products, so I thought I'd give them a go again. Perhaps their scratch/swirl remover followed by a good polish.

Anyone had similar issue with their paint that they were able to fix?

if you can feel the scratch no amount of polish will get it out you will just waste your time
3000 grit wet and dry is the best bet rub it back till its all smooth and the start the polishing process
good thing about Harley clear coat is its real thick

Thanks for replying blokes. Much appreciated.

I'm going to try Maguire's first as I'm optimist however I have a feeling something more drastic might be needed like 3000. If it gets to that, I might see what professional help is around to assist. My strengths lie elsewhere but will have a red hot go in the first instance, mindful not to make it worse.

And yes, 'don't mention the war' was a motto to live by at mine today.

Do those scratch repair pens work? I've never had a need for one yet.

In cheap as chips today and they have the scratch repair pens for $3. Prolly a cheapo version of the real thing.
