FXSTSSE2 ACR Standard??

Just wondering if anyone could tell me if my 2008 Softail Springer came standard with auto compression release? I have recently sent it in for a dyno and the bike starts and runs great............. on the first start. If I go to start a second time I get a sort of backfire through the intake and a knocking/clunking sound while cranking. If I leave the bike sitting for half hour or more it fires right up first try and runs great. I was told that it requires ACR's to fix this issue?

I have had nothing to do with decompression before and am unsure what to look for if my bike already has this. Im guessing a wire coming out of the top of the heads or something is what I would be looking for but unsure?

Can anyone chime in with any ideas, advice or experiences that may steer me in the right direction?

    Cheers again

    Chris

ACR factory fitted on all 110 CVO motors

BUT they have to be "enabled" , ie switched on in the ECM

Easy to miss if you're reflashing the bike , it comes up in one of the earlier "pages" during the reflash procedure

Have a close look at the MAP ( more correctly calibration !) that you've put into the bike for the big throttle body and 260 cams ,I bet you've missed it !

I HAVE , AND I'VE RE-FLASHED/ RETUNED HUNDREDS OF BIKES BEFORE NOW

Cheers for the quick reply Retroman. Apparently the ACR has been activated in the tuner but the ACR is not fitted? How can I tell if they are fitted or not?

Unless the motor has been hot rodded somewhere before you owned it then it will have ACR's

With the Supertuner calibrations you more often than not have to "dig into" the calibration to make sure the ACR's are "toggled on"

For example , some of the 103 cals the default setting for ACR's is OFF , even tho' all the 103's have them !!

First bike I worked on with factory fit ACR's was a 103 Limited Ultra in 2011 , and I had to toggle the ACR's to on as it was "hard starting" after I retuned it for Catless headers and 255 cams

No worries, I will make sure I check this out. Also, with my bike starting properly on a cold start and then backfiring through intake and struggling to start if I try to start again, does it sound like it could be the acr's not working to you?

Also, I have the leads and the program downloaded to check out the tuner so I will have a look myself.

    Cheers

Is it a "Dyno tune cal" you have in the bike right now , I mean a "custom" tune ?

And yes, your symptoms do sound like a "hard start" due to ACR's "off"

You can still look at it on the laptop without it being hooked up to the bike and see if the ACR's are "on"

My own 2008 FXSTSSE2 is tuned by the older "original" SERT , stock 255 cams , Vance & Hines Big Shot Staggered and it really motors

Slightly different arrangements to the later current SEPST , you have to select ACR's on/off on the way thru' a reflash , can't miss it really

On the SEPST you can miss it unless you go looking for it , easily done ( I have more than once until I "learned" to check and double check every time.

This is on multiple bikes mind

Ok, im back again!! My bike, for some unknown reason did not have ACR's!!! Just had them fitted today and now it starts right up every time. Now I see that they are in there now but for future reference how do I know if they are working or not? Will I hear a click or something? Where do I go to check if they are turned on? I have the tuner and cables. Do I need to be plugged into the bike? Yes it has been dyno tuned so I guess its a custom map. Dont know my way around the tuner as good as some.

    Cheers once again

Strange. All factory CVO's with the 110 motor had ACR's from the factory , no if's buts or maybes about that !

Sounds like your bike has had head changes sometime in it's history. Like I said earlier it may have been an earlier "HOT ROD"" attempt

Do you know the history of the bike , is it a US import or one of the ( very few!) FXSTSSE2 models sold in Australia. The air filter looks like a "Yank" bike , as is my own FXSTSSE2

Frasers in WA only ever sold 2 ! They were $58K or some wank at the time so no wonder !

In your supertuner software , go to "tuning constants" once you have the calibration open. The bike does not have to be connected to the laptop while you do this.

There there will be a tab where you toggle the ACR's either OFF or ON

PM me for phone number details and I'll talk you thru' it if need be. ( Not as rare as you may think , I talked a Perth Indy shop through it a coupla years back !!

You are correct. The loom for the acr's was still there but for some reason acr's had been removed when the head work was done. The bike was apparently purchased in Australia new for 59,800. I will see if I can find the section of the tuner you mentioned to see if the acr's are turned on. Just got to locate the area that the new map is in.

I would post the dyno results but the dealer said that their dyno does not do print outs due to the age. He said their dyno is reading about 10hp too low. He said my reading was 110hp which I guess is about 120hp. When they get their new dyno I will throw the readout up here and see what you think.

    Cheers again mate

Is there a certain part of the VIN or anything that tells me if my bike was first sold in Australia? Also, I've had a look and the ACR is turned on and seems to be working well but the bike still seems to be running lean after the tune and the running temperature is a bit hotter, running at about 210 Fahrenheit. May have to send it back for another look.
