The chrome covers knock off very easily, no damage to anything.
There is a notch out of the slider where you can get a soft punch in there to knock it off

its been a while since I had mine apart but yes straight up, do the side where the notch is a bit then work your way around, lightly taping until it is off.
a manual would be handy of course, if you havent got one they can be found on the net to download...

Is there a problem with the factory seals ?

Mine went with 12,000ks on it 2014 model and were replaced under warranty

Can't say about fatbobs but my fxst started blowin fork seals from day one...brand new. Got sick of changing them. Thought the fork tubes must be stuffed, bought new fork tubes and bingo! leaky fork seals. Had to put in the gas cartridge type front shocks and that fixed it cause they use hardly any oil.

Maybe it comes down to the roads you ride on. I've got a veritable 6klm bitumen motocross track before I get to the highway and find my other bikes tend to get leaky fork seals as well.

Not to mention the leaky crankcase centre seal , under warranty. Inner primary seal after that. Cylinder base gasket seal, etc etc.

Daggs is correct re the chrome fork covers, there is a notch on the inside of the fork leg that you use a soft drift to remove the cover from the fork leg (yes, they are Showa, so what ch out for metric bols on the fork if dismantling that for fork seal replacement/spring change etc.). The bigger issue is the re install of the chrome covers if it's tight on the fork leg (notch is of no use then) ......
