After chatting with a fellow rider yesterday, he showed me his kevlar and chainmail long sleeved crew neck top and a denim jacket reinforced with similar material. Both being expensive, top at $280 and the jacket $500 or so.
Being a cheapskate I initially bawked at the cost, but I was interested in the top for summer riding because it offerred airflow plus abrasion protection. The chain mail is over the shoulders plus both sleeves. The body is Merino knit with Kevlar. Cuffs on the sleeves have option to put your thumb through to keep the sleeve in place under your gloves or riding up your arm if you need to test it out.
I think that over a T-Shirt it it should do the trick on a hot day, plus it can be worn under any jacket.
The range of jeans also look great, and no doubt better than the cheap stuff. But once again they cost a fair bit, but what price on safety with comfort?
Today I pulled out the credit card and purchased the kevlar chainmail crew top.

Enough of my description and babble. The above link will take you to website description and the general site.
I just hope it's money well spent. Keep you posted.
Cheers.
First comment - money well spent! Temperature was round the 30 degree mark when I rode my Street Glide with a 7 inch screen from South Morang to Queen Victoria Market along Plenty Road and then through Collingwood. I had a short sleeve Tee under the chain mail top. I started at 80kmh along Plenty Road and then low, stop start speeds around town. The top felt light, comfortable and kept my arms out of direct sun but still cool with the breeze coming through. In fact it was so light that it felt as if there was nothing on my arms. The merino body of the top was soft and comfortable, certainly not heavy or hot. Air did flow through at higher speed. Whilst stationary I could feel some heat on my back, but far less than a leather jacket, probably the same as a Tee as there was some insulation. I rode home along the Tullamarine Freeway and the Ring Road back to Plenty Road at or just over 100kmh. Once again I could feel the breeze on my arms, no flapping of a Tee sleeve and no sun or wind burn. Plus no annoying bug splatters. You can wear what ever you want under it or over depending on the comfort required or season. For me this top at $280 is a winner. Highly recommended. For anyone on the fence its currently selling at half price.
Bugga, just saw the chest circumference. 123 and I'm 127 snug. Too small huh!
just rang them and thats the biggest,XXL at 123 CM.
Back in January prior to Snowy Ride III, I purchased a pair of Saint Kevlar Drills at a discounted price from RRP of $450.
Being a lighter material there was good airflow, plus there was no itch from any Kevlar because it was in the material, not an extra. This made the ride much more comfortable. My other pair of riding jeans have the Kevlar fabric sewn in at the crucial points so it is actually against your skin.
The Snowy Ride weather was extremely hot so the Drills got a great workout. Certainly worth the money.
Grabbing the photos today, I noticed that they now have an up market pair with armour at a highr cost.
