I've got the V & H big shots staggered and so far haven't been picked up for excessive noise (yet). Reading the threads there seems to be heaps of riders getting slugged for excessive noise. I came across this when googling...... https://youtu.be/XCShZIHCWz8

Has anyone had experience with this baffle passing an EPA test?

"For those of you in Australia you can get Quiet Baffle inserts for Vance & Hines on eBay for $69ea. There are three types that you can get from eBay seller peterstevensmotorcycles:

21869 - fits most Straightshots, Bigshots, Longshots, Softail Duals 21301 - fits most ShortShots Staggered, SideShots and 21899 - fits 3" slip-ons, Twin Slash 3" slip-ons.

These removable baffles will mellow your exhaust note for a classic thump, with a less edgy sound, that still showcases the strength of your motor. Reduces exhaust noise by approximately 2 -3 dB depending on conditions and bike."

I was told they don't come close to passing.
You can usually tell if a pipe is going to pass because it sounds like a sewing machine and it''s so hot you get a tan everytime you ride.

A mate has em. Yes it takes some of the edge off but still loud and nowhere near road worthy

looking at those quiet inserts, I think the only way theyd pass a noise test is if you wrapped fiberglass packing over all but a couple of the holes.
The image online of them shows only the rear section 'baffled' with packing and the front section (towards engine) open.
Being removable I think it;'s worth a try to see & experiment however you wouldnt want to block it up too much

I have them in my big shots and they take the edge off but they are far from quiet enough to pass. I was also going to install hard kore baffles but did not end up buying them. I have my standard pipes just in case.

I've got short shots on a dyna & have been through the noise testing in NSW. First I tried the Hard Kore baffles but failed, 2nd time I got some pipe from the local exhaust shop that fitted inside the standard baffles, drilled the back 6cm full of small holes & capped the end off, then stuffed them with the old steelwool. I had to remove the standard baffles & hammer the home made ones in, then attached the Hard Kore ones again. This passed easily, but you wouldn't want to ride you bike to far with this set up, lucky for me the tester was only a few kms from home.
Make sure that the tester can not see the steelwool as this will automatically fail the test. (I painted the home made ones black)
