So i have some progressive monoshocks for Tigger. Cool. It says to use 5 ounces of 10 weight oil as its just needed for lubrication purposes only. No probs.

So I go to get some new fork oil from the dealer the other day, They have two sorts harley fork oil "light", and "heavy". No specs on what weight it is and the counter dude says they use the "heavy" in all the fork upgrades.

    So I buy the heavy.

Anyone know what weight the harley oil is? Or should I go get some castrol 10 weight or another well known brand of 10 weight and give the H-D oil the flick?

    Whot you blokes think? Hutch-a-bang-oran-utang.

The heavy is meant to be somewhere around 20 weight.
If it's only a lube, it shouldn't really matter.

I put progressive in my fatty. Its a gas cartridge , the oil doesn't have anything to do with the damping. Its just there for lubrication. So the weight isn't important .You only need a small volume , not the same as in the stock forks. The amount is in the fitting instructions.

With regard fork oil ,, if you add equal amount of 10 w and 20 w together , (must be same brand), for the amount required , you now have 15 w ....

You can experiment with the amounts and end up with , say, 12.5w and 17.5w .. Depending on your bike, and how firm or soft you want the damping..

I have a tendency to sometimes overthink things too. But here is a perfect example of keeping things simple. if the oil is for lubrication purposes only why not use your old engine oil?
