No Diag Mode

Hi, First up cheers for taking the time to read this.

As the topic heading states I'm unable to enter the diagnostics mode on my 06 Sportster custom. I recently changed bars...again, a simple job with simplistic wiring requirements. Can't get any easier than joining colour coded wiring. This time however when I started the bike the red fault/lock key was displayed, and remains on. I tried to enter diags mode, again another extremely easy thing to do however it won't enter the diagnostics mode. I took the bike for a run no problems in performance and handles well with the new bars. Problem is the speedo needle doesn't move and it isn't registering Km's travelled. Speedo lights up and the display screen can be changed from the Km's display to the A and B display but thats all it does. Dummy lights still function as normal (Left, Right, Neutral etc.)

From what I've been able to research I'm guessing that it isn't the speed sensor as the code would just show up in the diagnostics it wouldn't stop me from entering the diagnostics mode. I've also tried a mates speedometer out and it does the same thing when connected to my loom...

Any help would be great as this has got me well and truly f**ked!

Your gunna have to go back into what you have done mate, cutting looms is never a good plan, best bet is to go back to the plug and unplug it, remove the pins from the plug on the side of the harness you are replacing, get the right replacement pins from the dealer and crimp them onto the end of your new wiring which you can trim to length if needed, insert the newly crimped pins into your old plug and plug it back together, vibration will snap soldered wires over time, been there done that.

Just reread what you wrote, sorry jumped the gun on you cutting looms, have a look at all the plugs you touched and make sure all the pins and sockets are seated properly and none have backed out a bit, that could do it.
