G'day,
I've just taken possession of my first HD in my 20th year of riding motorcycles. I always new this was where I'd find myself eventually. After all this time on Jap bikes, I knew a HD was for me -- the feeling when riding these things is unique.
The steed is a 2015 Fat Bob with a few nice bits. I was going with a more blacked theme, and I love the end result. The D&D system is rattling some teeth in my neighbourhood. Looking at the FXDF in my garage, it's like have an angry pit bull on the leash, just waiting for the opportunity to get amongst some mischief.
I brought the bike from Canberra HD, and I'm very pleased with the deal and service received so far.
Finally, I will add a 'thanks' to many of you. I've been planning and dreaming of this particular bike for 12 months now and have benefited from the experiences of many on the forum. Cheers. If, I owned a brewery, we'd have a great night on me (but I don't, unfortunately).
Pics to come when I work it out...
JFE
Thanks blokes.
Re: Canberra Harley, I will caveat my comments by flagging that I've only been dealing with them for six or so months (including before when it was Robbo's) during protracted negotiations.
What I do like is the staff come across friendly, patient and largely knowledgable. That is obviously a good thing. I dealt with Giles (bike sales) and he was great and accommodating. Good bloke. The girls in merchandise were very helpful, quick to track down gear and most importantly followed up on things that they said they would. John (finance guy) sorted a good deal on insurance for me too, via QBE. The bloke in the cafe makes a decent brew.
Since the new management came in, ultimately owned by Morgan & Wacker, they have significantly increased the floor stock of new and used bikes, which again is positive. It also ensures a good vibe to the place IMHO. I was told the HOG area was going to get a re-furb or something soon.
I can't comment on servicing aspects (still to have the first service) but my new bike is very well put together, and I've heard from a few reliable mates that have been very happy with how they have been treated. I'm very optimistic, and I plan to test their knowledge on baffle options for the D&D pipe if my teeth start falling out.
All this is my 2c as a new Harley owner. Others will have their own views/experiences. I don't have any other connection to the shop beyond dropping $$ on the new bike, and I'm not getting any ongoing discounts for talking them up. If my experience changes, I will let you know.
From what I've seen on this Forum, the good, bad and average dealers are soon outed, which is a good thing.
Cheers.
In reply to Fatbat -- thanks.
I've seen around four FXDF in Canberra so far, so the more the merrier I say. It's a awesome, versatile bike.
Some people will DO ANYTHING the get their post count up.
