Here is a before and after, no other change. Bike tuned and then retuned with a different exhaust. From Cobra pipes with street baffles to Bassagni Road

No. The bassagni is quite good, but really it shows how bad some pipes can be. I have lots of them. People don't believe it. On a stock motor pretty much anything is ok, Imean ok not good. On a worked up motor or a big one they need a good exhaust Full stop.

As the difference appears to occur upwards of 3,000 rpm, is the cause likely to be the entire Cobra exhaust design or perhaps the "street baffles"? "Street baffles" suggest it might be heavily baffled to reduce noise for street use, which would be alright for back pressure for low end response but it might affect the top end like the dyno chart?

I saw a similar dyno chart comparison that another member shared with me (might be posted on this forum somewhere) with V&H big radius 2-2 pipes I sold him which were heavily baffled by me to bring the noise levels down. The change of baffles drastically changed the performance from 3,000 rpm upwards, but other mods were done at the time too.

Lushy, there appears to be an ever so slight torque dip with the Bassani exhaust from about 2,200- 2,500 rpm (which is where a lot of people ride) - can you tell us more about the cause of this, what exhausts are prone to this more than others etc?

The dip. a) you shouldn't ride the bike at WOT at 2200rpm. b) it is a characteristic of a 2 into one exhaust. I did a 95 motor a while back with the Big Radius pipes, wnet from 103hp to 115 taking them off and putting a good exhaust on.

BTW yes, the baffles they sell for them do make them worse. They do a similar thing to the V&H "quiet" baffles. Knock the top off after approx 4750rpm. Usually 7 or 8 hp.

I'm running the full bassani road rage with a supertrapp end cap 26 discs closed works very well. It's reasonably quiet compared to the stock 2 1/2 x 7 inch louvered baffle.

On a stock 88 , put some good quality high flow slip ons on the stock headers for best power. Not many pipes flow badly enough to hold back a stock 88, so if you want looks go for the one you like the look of.
