got a 2000 heritage that and i want to upgrade the spring loaded cam chain tensioners with either the screaming eagle hydraulic up grade kit or a s&s gear drive, whats the pros and cons of each set up ? do i need to worry about crankshaft run out on a 2000 model twin cam with only 25,000 kms on it ? i am going to change the cams at the same time and are after some recommendations on which cams to use. bike is a stock 88 with air cleaner and tapered turbos. what sort of $$ can i expect to pay to have the job done ? After more low down grunt not top end.

Mate you won't know until you check the run out. I'd be prepared to have to bike off the road while you get the run out checked and then order the cams with either the chains or gear as required. SE 204's are a pretty good option for an otherwise mechanically stock 88. They're what I would have put in mine if I didn't do head work and 95" it.

Mind you there are plenty of good cams of similar spec out there. Woods, S&S, Crane just to name a few. And mate when the upgrades are done spend the $$$ and get it properly dyno tuned. Well worth it.

    Have fun.

Mate , i know what everyone writes about run out, but simple fact is, if run out was bad you would know it by now as your oil pump would be stuffered.

also i have read posts on here that guys get there stock flywheels trued to prefection, but all i know is, that would be very hard to do!!!! as the pin is pressed in that tight, would need to run over it with a mack truck to get it to budge. was different with Evo's and older you could true them up ok.

i had around same k as you have up on a TC88 dyna with chain drive but went through a few cam chain adjusters, then went gear drive did around 90,000k but would not tell you to use the cams i had as you would need to raise your compression so unless you want to do that waiste of time just changing cams. if your happy with how it runs now just put the hydralic cam chain adjuster i would also if you still want different cams put a set of bee hive valve springs, but i still think 88 " better as you have a good thick linner in cylinder wall so you will get a better seal, when you resize to 95 the cylinder wall gets thinner. S&S 97" barrels look to be thick so that is what i would get if i wanted more inches! good luch with it mate!
