    Hey mate ,

Sportsters are awesome bikes , it it was me though I would buy a cheaper bike for a commuter so you dont need to worry if something happens to it plus it wont matter if it clocks up the kms.

Hi, it seems like thats not too bad a price, although you may be able to talk it down a bit . 10 yeas old though. I commuted on a Iron 883 for 3 years and clocked up 33,000 kms. It was great for lane splitting at it is really narrow. It was not super quick away from the lights so be careful next to brogans in v8s. I didn't have any problems. I have sold it now. I may get another 883 as I only travel around the city. The Dyna was a bit to hard to get through between lanes in some spots on my trip to work.

I did exactly that in Feb this year. Sold the car as I do not use it and the daily commute was wearing out the FXR too much so bought a Sporty for the job.

    My criteria were:
    - Must be fuel injected so i do not have to dick around with carbs.
    - Must Belt driven so no need to worry about chain upkeep.
    - Must have a rubber mount engine for smoother rides and longer life.
    - I needed a luggage rack to take the rear bag as I'm not into wearing a backpack on the bike - its just too dangerous
    - 883 Model and I did not really care which type (a 1200 would be nice but when you spend 99% or your time at 100-110 km/hr it adds little value)
    - Would like it to be less than 5 years old (the rubber mount and EFI also helped narrow this bit down)

In the end I bought a 2009 883Low with just shy of 20,000km on the clock. It came with SE Pipes (plus the OEM ones), removal luggage rack and two seats - a solo and a duel. I paid $9k for her, but the extras were worth about $1k to me and I needed them anyway.  Performance wise its sweet.  A sporty will leave a stock big block Harley in its dust from a standing start at the lights.

I ride every day to work and love it! Its 45mins one way compared to 1.5hrs on the train, so its well and truly paid for itself.

Go see the bike and throw $6100 at him and see how y go. If he wants more walk away. The bike will still be worth 5k in another 10 years time with high ks so not much depreciation.

If you have a luggage rack and a Harley roll bag on the top, oddly enough the toll cameras never seem to be able to see past the bag to your number plate. Yet viewed from behind the plate is very easy to see and does not raise unneeded police attention as they can see it fine.
