Leather seal !!

Went to a 4WD expo thingy in Melbourne the other day and came across this leather seal stuff.  Smooth salesman sold my better half two tins for her assortment of leather boots.  I asked him about using it on the fatty seats ie would i go sliding out the back if i used it on them.

He assured me  I wouldnt so I pinched a tin from the other half and gave the seats on the fatboy a work over.  They were a little dryish as was the tank bib and I had tried numerous other products on them.  Well this stuff is the shit.!!  Worked it into the leather and between the stitching with a soft rag and them gave them a buff up.  Came up a million dollars better than anything else I had used and it also waterproofs them as well.  Brought out the dark color of the leather and gave it a soft well moisturised look.  You know just like your hands after you moisturise in the morning :-)  Anyway, bullshit asise I thought I would raise it on the forum.  I see they have a website http://www.leatherseal.com.au/ where it can be purchased.  I am not connected in any way with these people just thought someone might appreciate a good product.

    Heres a pic.

Binnsy, I have to agree with you. It is good stuff.

I've been using it for years now on my leather jacket, pants, gloves and chaps (yes, chaps) with great results.

Totally agree. I bought this product at least 15 years ago at Brisbane 4wd, camping expo too. Still using it these days. Works very well. The only thing is the lid is not the easiest to open.

No worries Baloffski it really did make a difference to parts of the seat the previous owner didnt bother with cleaning. Softened the leather and make it look like new. Smells nice too !!! Not that Im gunna sniff the seat :-) When the dude at the show put it on my wife's boots he poured water on them and it ran straight off without marking the leather as well.

A good way to get the stuff into the stitching is to use a an artist paint brush with stiff bristles. This stuff is excellent

Thanks Odin, will try that. Having trouble getting it into the stitches. It is great stuff, I do my seats regularly with it.

I just resealed my leather jacket with Leather Seal again on a warm day so you can work it into every part of the garment. I always over do it so the jacket becomes a bit shiny and sticky. I then leave it for a couple days or more to let it soak in, then wipe off the excess. This way I know that all areas of the jacket have been sealed.

If it's still too sticky for you, then just keep rubbing off the excess.

It's good to see all of the good reports.

I used Sno-Seal for a long time, with great results.

I needed some more and was convinced to try a 'Joseph Lyddy' product called - 'jay-el'.

Reading the can, it's beeswax .... which I think makes it comparable to Sno-seal.

It works just the same AND is more available - thru Horsey shops / saddlerys.

I like this thread.... I am a hobby beekeeper so am now going to make my own Leather Sealer as I am well and truly over my leathers acting like sieves in the rain! Some beeswax and lanolin mixed up seems to be a good starting point. I'll let you know how it goes.
