I think if it's in the street in public with passing people you're pretty safe, only bike I ever had stolen was from a 'secure' private car park.. Go figure!

We ride to Sydney for the weekend and leave the bike in a secure carpark I thought nothing of it, then one weekend while in Sydney it came over the news that Police had arrested a group specialising in taking bikes from carparks where some  attendants were tipping the thieves about bikes left in the carpark. Having said that I regularly leave my bike unattended without any probs. Sometimes its who you know that gets you into trouble friends of friends hear about bikes and come looking. I have lost one bike but theft was rampant back then.

Lock it up tighter than a Nuns cunt. Even then, I know of someone who lost a bike when they simply just lifted it onto a Ute. Cant win.

If your that scared to ride it get rid of it and buy a vstar as has been said if they want it they will get it no matter what, insure it and ride it, when you get off it lock it, turn the alarm on (make sure it has a siren not just lights)and 99.5% of the time you will ride it home

I had a motorbike stolen about 30 years ago. it was a Honda 400N and I was fukin gutted. I saved up some money and bought a Honda VF750 and enquired about insuring the bike but quoted $1800 for the bike. I paid $1000 for the bike so I couldn't see the point in paying the insurance. it must have put me off paying for insurance. I have owned a fair few bikes since and luckily enough I haven't had any problems. Talking about insurance, how many peoples houses burn? Very few, I reckon. How many get flooded? very few. I have never insured any of my bikes and never will cos over the years my bike is free

    +1 insurance.

Many years ago, when Harleys were fewer and further between, a friend was INVITED to a party. It was a wild party, with plenty of distractions and you guessed it: when he went to check on his Electra Glide it had mysteriously vanished. At the time, Dick Tracey and Maxwell Smart were the only ones with mobile phones and the party was off the beaten track, so it is unlikely to have been an opportunistic crime. He believes he was set up and the bike was confiscated by a notorious bike gang. Of course nobody at the party knew anything about it.

at the least, the thief put his pushy away for easy access later, bet he locked it up so no low life would steal it

So how many of the modern ones with the security systems and alarms are getting stolen?

Got mine insured but if it gets flogged doubt the insurance company would cover for the stage 4 upgrade or any of the other extra stuff on it.

No doubt they would just pay the bare minimum= fuck all. Least that'd be better than diddly squat.

So who has had their bike stolen with a functioning security system ? Or whose mate has.

Just know when I have accidentally set my alarm off, my ears near friggin bleed while I scramble for the fob. (see avatar pic)

I always sit where I can see my bike. don't worry about trying to be all cool and stuff and go into a yuppie bar, just enjoy the outside tables and watch the world go by. people are smoking? who cares, how much crap do you breathe in when riding behind putt putt cars and trucks? also sitting outside allows you to greet other riders and have a jibber jabber. when i have to leave bike unattended, i will put a cover on it as well as locks and alarm.

I've got Agreed value with QBE.
Had to send some photos of the bike to show the mods but thats all.
Shannons and their other Company, Insure my ride, are rip offs. They dropped my Comprehensive from 15k to 8k without advising me.

mate of mine had is 2014 fatty lo stolen with all the bells and whistles.. even had the steering lock on ...
still unsure how they did it...
had it hidden in his garage behind his boat.. they came in over night while he was asleep a few meters away ...
didnt take anything else which he thinks he might of been followed home...
didnt hear the alarm or anything.. fobs are in his bedside table and both were there in the morning <img src=" border="0" src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/_default/emoticons/sad.gif" />

i see Ebay have wireless security cameras for like 150 bucks... might not be that clear but it will prove it was stolen...
i have just ordered a set

You really have to read the fine print and the PDS

Very true, just had to ring the travel insurers to note that i have a prior medical condition, they upted the cost by $40 but covered me. If i had taken the risk and had an issue overseas and not told them prior to claiming , well bad luck!

Obviously steer clear of Budget direct if that is the case. Bugger.
