BP98 as was tuned for it and based on power/mileage etc seems consistently good.

If unavailable will try Shell or Caltex 98.

Worse case 95 as I agree will not run 91 even in my 4 stroke lawnmower.

I use BP 98 and have done since the bike was purchased from new. Had a 8000km service done last week and was told that everything was okay and to keep doing what I'm doing

BP Ultimate. There's a BP 800 metres down the road from me. I fitted a 1250 kit to my bike and now tune on TTS. I've never had a problem since the build. My plugs look spot on.

Before I ran the kit i tried 91, 95 and 98. The difference between 91 and 95 was noticeable. 95 and 98 not so much. With 95 and 98 the throttle was much more responsive.

Even if your bike is stock, just run 98. a few extra bucks in each tank will save you in the long run.

I drive a 2000 stock subaru liberty as a daily driver and it runs so much better on 98 than any other fuel.

Just thought i would say, i've used Shell 98 & BP98 not thinking i'll feel a gain. i use it to stop detonation. as burns slower. i won't make a low compression motor perform better would probably be slower but looks after my motor.thats why i use it. but sometimes out in the sticks you can't find it so you just use what you can get.

I would have thought that the only time you would get detonation in a stock compression Sporty would be when your lugging the engine.

lugging/heat/timing all come into play. Bit more too it than the bike sounding like a box of marbles. Shame no knock sensor on these things. Would make tuning easier.

Don't even start me on the engine sound! My sporty sounds like a sewing machine that's about to explode! mind you its been the same sound for 30k now so its just part of the deal (perhaps I'll retro some noise cancelling headphones into my helmet one day)

don't know what stock comp is on the new efi sporty but my carb had 10.0.1 , now has 230pound cranking pressure.

I just ran a tank of E10 through the Sporty and to be honest it seemed no different than the 98 I normally run (other than being heaps cheaper), so go figure!

I have 1997 1200 sporty imported and run BP98 and find it better than Caltex. Used Caltex once and bike started to pre ignition on turning off. Used BP ever since

I ran 91 through my Sportster for years - never did any damage. I wouldn't put in E10 unless I had no choice though. I was told the problem with ethanol is the damage shows up later. You get a power boost, but at the price of fuel consumption. Better to just go with 95

not an expert on fuels, but maybe we need to check the MSDS on the fuel we are using and find out how much benzene there is in the fuel as this is what ups the octane rating. I have found that its best to use a servo that has a lot of use by the young bucks and their fast cars as they think 98 will give them extra bang, this way the under ground tanks get filled more often with fresh fuel. this is just my opinion
