    Hi All,

I live in Perth and am thinking about putting an oil cooler on my '06 Fatboy, Can't decide if it;s worth it. Any suggestions for or against?

I wouldnt bother if you live in Perth. If you do a lot of riding up north then it would be a good idea, just change your oil regularly and you will be fine mate. Cheers.

I've been using these for years here in Perth , and all my mates are onto them now thru' me.

Black oil filters are fine with them too , no chrome required

They drop the oil tank temperature 20F guaranteed, are 'easy fit" and no plumbing required

Coupla years ago I did a big review in an older thread here on the forum

Retroman ,,, I have not got a heating problem , but I was thinking about the oil cooler you mention.. . bit of a no brainer for older bikes that did'nt come stock with the plumbed oil cooler, to keep the temp in check, and for not much bucks, and simple install ...

Yes mate , comes well into the "best bang for the buck" category

I have done all the back to back testing with the "Premium oil cooler kit" way back in 2012 and earlier , and both dropped the oil tank temp 20F on a warm Perth day , but this slip-on one worked when stopped in traffic , the $700+ HD kit needed airflow over the radiator to work of course.

Only the tourers come with a stock plumbed in cooler as far as I know , and several mates of mine with Baggers use the cooler collars as well !

    hey Retroman,

with these collars are they easily removed when it comes time to change oil & filter?

I run an oil temp dipstick/gauge and mine sits on around 190-200 farenheit however in heavy traffic(which I hate) has gone to just over 230

As you have used them would appreciate your experience with getting them off

It just slips on to the oil filter robnicko it's interference fit to the filter slip on slip off when you do a filter change ,
You must use oem filter though As they don't fit right on some aftermarket filters
.there use to be a guy on eBay USA that makes/ sells them I myself use the ultima down tube type which I beleave works better  in cooling but does not run a thermostat to control temp like some of the more pricey ones

i do have a cooler  coller as well which I did use before I put the down tube one on and thay do help with temp ,I will use that on my other bike once it's on the road seeing I already have it  I spend enough now on Harley crap lol
