I have recently acquired a 2004 V rod. I picked the bike up from auction which has been declared a statutory write off, accident damage. From what I have learned it is basically impossible to re register the bike in any state. I decided to buy the bike as the damage really is quite superficial. The left peg has been broken off leaving a hole in the lower frame which I would imagine is the reasoning for the insurance evalution declaring a stat write off. If only the authorities would agree that simply replacing the damaged part of the 3 piece frame will deem the bike safe for the road then this would be a whole lot easier. The rear suspension spring/shock has been bent also. Other than that it just needs a replacement clutch lever and master cylinder. The bike only has 10,000 k's on it and is otherwise great condition.
I am wondering if anyone may be able to point me in the right direction to obtain a new or used frame I will be able to rebuild and re register. I have been looking at import options but am a little sceptical about trusting some american suppliers, the import costs and the compliance inspection process. Not looking at making a quick buck, I want to ride this beast, I know it can live to cruise another day. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.
