Going through a couple of options for my bike.,,,  2009 flht Electra Glide Standard...    1.  Upgrade/ refresh  my engine.,,  2.   Swap engine with 103 ci, (low kms)..

    Question is,,

What is a 96 ci , stock motor ( 105,000 kms)  worth to sell ??    Never been unbuttoned ,,  does,nt use oil ,,  goes well ...

Just want to get an idea what I could expect, to go towards the swap , if I go that way ....  Thanks ..

Hi Mark. I assume you're talking about freshening up or replacing the top end only. The 96 ci top end isn't worth much (I've got a 96 ci top end for sale right now, I.e cylinders, heads for $450. Stock Cams are worth nothing and probably same with high milage pistons. The 96 ci top ends are good if you want to bore out to 103, 106 or 107, get the heads decked, ported, polished, new valves etc. If you're wanting to freshen up the top end do this with your 96 cylinders and heads. Buy new pistons, cams, gaskets, seals etc. Buy another cheap top end if you want to do this and minimise your own bikes down time. And then you'd sell your own top end later.

If going to the trouble of disassembling top end and rebuilding it, you may as well go as big as possible (106/107). Machine cost no different and piston cost no difference.

I was at local dealer today and they have a complete 120r engine for sale for $7k or $7.5k  ??

Thanks for the reply fatbat ,, I was going to pm you, but thought this may be of interest to others ..

An Indy shop I know has found a 103 motor , (from a 2013 tourer) , that has only got 2000 kms on it , plus some S&S mild cams installed. Comes with injectors , manifold etc .. The owner , of course upgraded to something bigger ..
So it will be , out with the 96 , and in with the 103 .. Was advised ,(because of my kms) , to get new clutch pack and upgrade spring .. They also would check out compensator and replace if needed .. I will also need a tuner, (shop works with SE Race tuner), and it will be tuned on the dyno ..

I know there may be comments like , this would be better than that , etc, ,, but for what I'm looking for in a ride, it seems an easy and painless way to upgrade , specially when the bike in all other areas is in A1 condition..
As with everything , it comes down to price ,, and the price I was quoted , including , motor, all parts and labour ,(including tuner and dyno time), was a surprise , (in a good way)...
So if I go down this road , I will have a 2009 , 96ci engine thats done 105,000kms for sale, .... There got to be worth something !!!! Cheers ..

Mark sounds good especially given the mileage is so low and the price for everything is lower than you expected. Is it just the top end they're gonna change over or the top and bottom? It's good when you know a good Indy shop aye ??

Mark you will be lucky to get interest in your engine..

I have sold 2 96ers in the last year. Got $2000 for one with 20,000 on it.
And got $1500 for the other with bit over 50,000 on it and both times struggled for interested party's.

The second one I resorted to eBay which is usually a sign of what people are willing to pay.

Trouble is there is brand new engines out there everywhere cause of people putting the 120rs in and pulling low k ones out and selling. No one is gonna buy one
with big Ks when they can pay a bit more for basically new engines.

Maybe a grand will sell it but don't like your chances for much more over that mate. Good luck anyway.

Thanks for the replies fellas ,, As I know now, you can find a used low km 103 for a very reasonable price, I also know I cant have it both ways and sell a 96 with high kms and think I'm going to recoup a reasonable amount of the swap costs... I just wanted to get an idea, that when the time comes I price it to sell it , (I now have a better idea what a 96 realistically is worth to sell) , and not end up with a big fucking door stop .... No doubt there are people out there, that may have a non running bike and all they want is a cheap running motor to have some fun .. Here's hoping !!!! Cheers ...

Thanks Tim, I was all set to spend some bucks and refresh the cam chest , new tensioners , a set of mild cams ,, push rods and lifters etc, and a good tune . Then the option of low km 103 donk came up , and looks like the best bang for the dollars ...

Funny tho,, there was a guy on other thread recently , that was asking, should I buy a 2008 or 2011 tourer... I made a comment, "why dont you pony up and snap up a 2015 run out tourer when the new 2016's are on the showroom floor " .... I told this to a mate of mine down the pub the other day , and straight away we both had big silly smiles on our faces !!!! Decisions,, Decisions , Decisions !!!!!!
