Running very rich and throwing error code

G'day, wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction and save me time and money finding this issue myself?

Ok, when I put my pipes back onto my 08 cvo springer, I took her out for a decent ride. All was good at this point. After another ride I noticed the

bike was running rather rich due to the smell of fuel and

the backfiring through the air cleaner when starting. This happened when the bike was still warm only. I thought maybe clean it up and send in for a tune. I started cleaning and heard a rattle at the rear cylinder where the exhaust  bolts to the head. On closer inspection, the o2 sensor had just about unscrewed out of the exhaust! Obviously I didn't tighten it enough. I tightened it up and went for a ride. Still running rich! I then went into the diagnostics on the dash and the O2 sensor code was there. I cleared the code and went for a ride. Problem solved! Ran like a dream again. Another ride and it started running rich again. I checked diagnostics and the code was back! I cleared again and it was all good. Went for a good ride and about 2 hours later it started running rich again, code is back. What could it be? I have a spare set of O2 sensors from an 07 softail. Would I try changing them out or am I looking in the wrong place? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Chris

There's a "special" tube socket with a cutaway slot in it for installing the O2 sensors

Most folks don't have them so use an open ended spanner of course , "normal" socket can't do it because of the wire.

They need to be torqued if possible , and high temp' anti-sieze put on the threads.

Quite possible that your O2 sensor has been damaged by rattling around more than once

The 2007 sensors will be fine

Thanks for the heads up mate. It will be spanner for me for sure as I dont have the correct socket you mentioned. I will get these installed and let you know how I go.

    Cheers

Ok, here's an update. I removed the O2 sensors and replaced them both. I cleared the error code in the diagnostic section of the bike. Must have been this coz its running sweet as now. If anything it could do with a bit more fuel!

    Cheers for your advice.
