G'day everyone I am just wondering if anyone here has sold there Twin Cam and gone back to a Evo.

I had a 2001 Dyna Superglide sold that bike about two years ago and now own a 1993 Evo Softail Hertiage.

Ok so what was wrong with my Twin Cam, well there was nothing wrong with it, I spent a shit load of money on it, put in gear drive cams, high flow oil pump, welded the crank and the list goes on so why did I sell it, like many Aussie's I fell on hard times for a while to many bills and not enough money.

Fast forward to buying my Softail, so after getting back on my feet I had a set budget to get another bike and it looked like a Sportster for the money I had, btw nothing wrong with Sportster's I owned five of them but I did not really want to make it six.

So enter my Evo Softail got it for a good price the bike has style and comfort for me, as I can afford it I am setting it up better for myself, new Mustang seat coming, new set of bars as well and I have also added some bling.

So guys my bike may not be as fast or as flash as a newer Twin Cam but she get's me to where I want to go and back again and that keeps me happy and I will say that my old girl will stay with me till the day I hang up my helmet cheers.

Both great bikes in their own right ... would be hard pressed to choose between them .

Had a 76 Shovel Head back in my younger years as well ... as long as they are running
They are great ... when they dont well thats another story , Lol .

If mine ceased to be in my garage for whatever reason I would buy what I could afford and love it and ride it be it evo, shovel, twin cam or whatever, I'd be damn grateful to have a set of wheels beneath my arse and the wind in my face while I'm still above ground.

If your bike don't run points its got electrics that will strand you on the side of the road, just cause you don't understand something don't make it bad though.

How many people still use these , and still think the latest models  are to complicated  and not user friendly ???

Now before you get on the key board and start throwing lefts and rights ,,  its not my intention to throw shit on the old evo , let alone any other bike !!

If your passion and hobby is riding and maintaining older bikes, other than newer bikes with all the newer technology ,etc , then so be it , and good luck to you ...

As a member above said ,, " As long as I'm riding and got the wind in my face ),, that's all that matters !!!!

But to put an argument forward , (if you had the choice for a bike as your "primary" ride),  to opt for an evo other than the new twin cam bikes , is a bit of a long bow for me !!!!

That statement was not ment to mean if it ain't got points it's no good, it was ment to point out that anything with electronic ignition can leave you stranded, mines efi, I like it....

I havent gone from a twin cam back to an evo. I instead chose to purchase an old 87 evo over a twin cam.

Im old school, I like things I can understand, I dont know shit about computers or electrics, I prefer simple mechanical.

I found the model I wanted, since then ive pumped more dollars into it than I would have spent purchasing a later model twin cam.
..owes me over $20k now and still going, as there's still a coupla things left I intend to change.

I trust it's now reliable, with a new lease on life, and ready for the long haul.

Each to their own. I certainly wont bag the twin cams, and if my current bike eventually dies an irrepairable death, I'll no doubt then look at a street bob as its potential successor, then I'll have a go at all this newfangled technolology.

I went back to an Evo from a brand new 103cu.

I realized i prefer riding the old classics - Evo and a Shovel.

The only reason I would understand anyone going back to a Evo after a twinky is financial reasons.
Some may be lazy and not want to learn the the modern technology and stick to points and carby.

But for anyone that actually rides miles to say they are a better bike or that you would prefer to ride one over a twinky is a bullshit cop out.

Like saying you would prefer to drive a HT Holden over a late model commodore.
Or as mark pointed out use a old brick phone over a small iPhone.

    Move with the times fellas

That's not why we got Harley's, we know they are old air cooled out dated technology that most other jap bikes with half the engine size could beat us.
