    Hi All

Hope someone can help with this.

Took the bike for a spin a couple of weeks ago and she has sat in the shed since.

Went to start her yesterday with no luck. Seemed like plenty of crank but she wouldnt start. All appears normal and during cranking nice flames (not) leaping from the exhaust but she wont catch.

Checked the battery and it was down a little to about 12.3V. Whipped out the battery and charged it overnight. Seems OK at 12.6V no load just sitting in the bike but drops badly to 10V and under during cranking.

I am leaning towards new battery. What do you guys think? Battery? Plugs?

Unable to check charging until I can get her started. Any and all ideas welcome

    Cheers guys

    Thanks for the reply FLIPDOG

If you mean the whine sound when you flick the run switch, then yes. All lights and sounds seem to be as normal. And yes it has fuel, not such a dumb question haha. I thought that the nice flames from the pipes must mean that fuel is present (certainly smells like it) and spark too

Mate ,, if it is original battery (07 bike) ,, my money is on failing battery ... If it is original , and been sitting 2 weeks between rides ,, and you start her up on a cold morning, you are going to really give a failing battery a big workout !!! If it is a newer battery , go to an auto shop and get battery load tested ,, even newer batteries can fail .... If everything comes up good, check and clean all ground cables... Let up know how you go ,,, Gook Luck ....

12.6 volts after an overnight charge is tooooo low. I suspect your battery has expired.

    Hi All

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Picked up a new battery, reseated all the connections and spark plug leads, reseated and cleaned up all the ground connections and she fired first time. Big smiles over here in the shed. Maybe a combination of a failing battery and somethings shakin' a little loose.

Thanks again guys. Appreciate the help.

    Cheers

Good to hear your up and running again ,,, But your lesson is'nt over with yet !!! After a good ride , get your meter out and check voltages , 1. bike not running and ignition off ,, 2. bike not running and ignition ON ,,, 3. Start bike , whats the cranking voltage ? ,, 4. Idle voltage ,, 5. Voltage at 2000 rpm , (this is a check to see if the voltage regulator is operating properly) ,,,

Now you will know what voltages you want to see with a good battery ...

There are other electrical tests you can do , (the above are good simple ones), but there for another lesson !!!!!

good to hear that the new battery solved your issue,

    as an FYI 12.6v is considered 75% charge & 12.7 100%

do you run a tender on it? very handy for checking the charge rate when running (14.3v) by putting multimeter probes in the tender plug on the bike, saves having to remove the seat

i run a tender on mine evry couple of days and its always between 12.8 -13.0v
