    Hiya War Daisy

I know where you are coming from wanting to do the servicing youself.

However Mutley and Paulybronco have very valid points regarding the first couple of services while the bike is under warranty. Do those ones yourself and you are on your own if you have something like a complete engine siezure or similar. Bluntly Harley will tell you "stiff shit".

Usually your not going to have a complete engine siezure.....but shit happens. It did with me. My bike needed the crankcases split to fix an oil leak just after the second service. I was told it was a 15 hour job! and was pretty happy I'd had a licensed mechanic (not Harley) do the first 2 sevices and that it was covered under warranty.

Apart from that I really like to do what I can myself. Infuriatingly there are tools listed in my workshop manual (with Harley part numbers) that the local HD dealership will not sell me. They say only "Dealers" are allowed to buy them.

    That makes me angry.

Perhaps you are not fussed about warranty issues? I know people who are not, also know people who scoff at insurance and will happily cover the loss of a 30 odd grand bike if something goes wrong.

You wanna work on it come "hell or highwater" for the first 2 services and the rest, good luck to you. At least you know everything has actually been done properly.

Hmmm?? Scavenging! I guess you could call this "just plane dodgy".... but I drain the tank, fill with the new stuff, disconnect return line to tank, run engine to bleed off old oil in system, reinstall return line, swap filter, top up tank, run and recheck level on jiffy.... job done!
