Yet Another 883 / 1200 Question

    G'day

I am looking to buy the 883/1200 HD Stage 2 kit  - 29836-10 (comes with the Head/Pistons, Cams, clutch spring and SERT) for about $1600 in Australia. I was quoted about $1600 to install in Sydney.

At present I don't have the courage to installed it all myself or the money to get HD to install it so I was consider buying this kit and an aftermarket air cleaner, do the stage 1 myself for the moment and over time do the rest myself.

Seems that most people are against the SERT but if I go for a 1250kit and PowerVision I will be over the $2k mark.

    Cheers

    FA

What do you want to know?
Should you go the SERT or the Powervision, up to you.

If you feel comfortable installing parts your self, do it.
If not, save some more money and get it done properly. ps. obtain quotes for the work, ask around for prices.

Another option instead of the SERT or Powervision is the TAB Auto tuner, they work pretty good too.

Sorry, was a bit vague :)

I was interested in whether I was wasting my money getting the SERT or if it does an "ok" job as I can't see myself paying for a Dynotune for a while.

So the stage 2 kit is just the conversion ? Making the 883 a 1200?

Stay with the sert absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. I have been able to get them to work fine on big cammed bikes and even boosted bike. HD (screamin eagle) have a much larger R&D budget than any other aftermarket branded tuner. There are only a very few reasons why i'd not use the SERT and i have not built or seen a bike that needed to use anything else. Most would say to use something else as they dont understand how to use the SERT or get the most out of it. Autotune is a feature i will not use but wont get into here as it can be a long argument.

Cheers Andrew, pity you are not in Sydney but I think I now have a plan of attack. While the kit from HD may not be quite as good as the 1250 kits there is something about buying OEM stuff.

HD have two 883 / 1200 kits both about $1600,
    1. Street legal 883 to 1200 that includes 1200 heads, SE air cleaner etc but standards cams and no SERT or
    2. "Race use only" uses the 883 heads but includes performance cams and SERT but no air cleaner

I prefer to use the Hammer kits. So much better than the rest, good service and quality parts. The conversion with my extras usually costs about $2200 depending on the $ exchange.

how many rwhp you getting out of the 1250's Andrew?

I just did a set of Hammer Jackhammer 570 cams and so far so good on base tune, got a fair bit to tidy up when I can get back on a dyno. I'd be happy with 83-85rwhp at 1200cc. Can't justify cost of heads yet.

I get with just the barrels and pistons (everything else 883) 85hp and 90T, which makes them quite quieck if you can ride and use all the power. If you looking for more well then the $'s go up in a big way.

    Regards Andrew.
