Anybody out there converted their rear end to a 240? if so, what did it entail (e.g. Guard, swingarm, pulleys , primary etc.) and what were rough costs? Anybody in Adelaide you'ld reccomend?

Try this link. Heartland are probably the best bet for a conversion like this. Especially if you are talking about your 2001 Jade softail. This kit landed in Australia is closer to $4500 when i looked into it about 6 months ago.

I ended up settling for just going to a 200mm rear end. Apparently they handle better than the wider tires and are easier to finish at home. There is a conversion kit for these too but i am just moding my own and matching stuff up. Not that hard when you get into it.

But the 240/250 rears do look tuff as. Comes down to how much do you really want that look and the $$ you have. Good luck mate.

Thanks Huddo. It's actually for a mate. I'm staying with the standard swing arm, and going up to the max. 200 tyre on a 3.5" rim The mate's got plenty of cash because he's selling off his Breakout to go back to what he calls "a classic Harley " look. Haha , took him long enough to work out, the Deluxe he had before was a more rideable bike!. Wide tyres look tough , I agree, but the huge gumballs on the Breakouts don't necessarily let them go round corners quicker, as he has found out! He's been quoted $9k for the conversion, which I reckon is ludicrous. I'll put him onto the link you've given me, and get him to keep an eye on what you're doing to yours. That's what I love about this forum! Somewhere , somehow, somebody's tried to modify their bike, and it's good to jump over the hurdles you get finding out what works and what doesn't. Then again. that's half the fun! Cheers, Mate.

Doesn't make much sense in terms of your mates breakout doesn't corner well and now he wants the same size 240 rear end on his deluxe? Deluxe are a nice classic styled bike but adding a 240 rear end changes that too.

Call me old fashioned but wide rear ends aren't practical on bikes (or women). Your mate could follow your lead with the 200 rear which is plenty wide and with the money saved he could do engine upgrade/mods.

Totally agree , Fatbat. I must be as old fashioned as yourself! I reckon working in the mines has gone to his head! Personally, I think you buy a bike for functionality ( what you use it most for) and then tweak it to your personal taste after that. If you try to radically change that format ,I guess you might as well stay with what you've got. More money than brains ,i reckon- a bit like his women , actually :)
