Fancy anti-fog riding glasses: money wasted or well spent?

Is it money well-spent, or money wasted, to go hunting a fancy pair of anti-fog riding glasses? Glasses to hopefully NOT fog up even when it is a) cold, b) you have your half helmet on, c) you also have a (neoprene or cloth) face mask due to said cold weather, and d) you're stopped at a light (wind cannot be your saviour).

Put differently, go old school or new school?

Old School: spit on the inside of the lenses; shampoo or shave cream wiped on and buffed off lenses; or use rain-x or some other such product as used by divers and so forth

New School: lenses with foam sealant. This is a case NOT of "do I want to spend the money" but of "if I do spend the money, will I get the results I want (see above)?"

The past few chilly morning rides to work, in lovely Melbourne, have seen both goggles and glasses fog to hell with half-helmet plus face mask on and stopped at lights (admittedly, el cheapo glasses; but were advertised as anti-fog)

Can anyone recommend fancy glasses that actually ARE the anti-fog advertised, in the conditions a-d noted above? And if you know of any photochromatic AND anti-fog that you can recommend, please do. Or should I conclude the advertising for the fancy stuff is bullsh*t and go old school?

It's a wonder no one has invented impact resistant saftey contact lenses (maybe they have). Wouldnt think they would fog up, though you might get cold eyeballs.

I've got a pair of Ugly Fish riding glasses/goggles that I use every time I ride, they're fantastic until you stop and then instant fog, even though they're apparently anti-fog, only takes about a meter of movement for them to clear up again. I've got some cat crap to try on them to see if that helps, but not sure yet.

I have Ugly Fish, with the foam surround seal. I keep about 1/4 inch Off my face when on early morning rides, as it's the steam / body heat that comes out of your Eyes that cause the Fogging. I do know some that have removed the foam seal. I was going to try just removing the foam seal from along the Top. This way any dust still gets stopped at bottom / sides,.

I bought them for the foam seal, every pair of sunnies I've ever tried still lets in way too much air and my eyes end up watering like a bitch - overall I'm really happy with them though - I also use the headband and not the arms, couldn't get them snug enough to block air without the headband

My glasses fog when I'm stopped, I think for me, my breath is partially channeled up alongside the space my nose makes in my neckerchief, up behind my glasses, 'cos when I'm stopped, if I pull my glasses away from my face about that quarter inch FXST11 talks about, the fog lifts!

So maybe anti-fog stuff wont help?

I find pulling away with fogged up glasses adds to the experience anyway by introducing that uncertain feeling you get sometimes on a bike, like going into a previously unridden bend when you realise you're a little hot as you notice the bend tightening the more you get into it...... So enjoy!!

I have a pair of HD glasses with foam on the inside and same issue here, they fog up when stopped in traffic but clear as soon as you start riding again. As mentioned in a previous post its the body heat coming out.

Go with ugly fish or something similar! I bought a pair of ugly fish a few weeks back, well worth the money. I ride with and open face helmet and a neoprene face mask and that's at 6:30 in the morning. Good time to test out new winter gear or glasses in Melbourne! If it don't work then, then it will never work!

I wear ocean eye wear goggles with my half and three quarter lids, they have three interchangeable lenses- SMOKED for sunny days, YELLOW for overcast days (these are great for brightening up) and CLEAR for night riding, they also have a spectacle frame that clips inside lense for prescription lenses to be fitted
no fog, no wind no dust or debris- padded eye pieces with elastic strap worn underneath helmet
They are anti-fog and shatterproof, come with hard case ,optional arms worn as sunnies or elastic to be worn as goggles and soft sock, bout 105 bucks in shops, seen em for 85 on fleabay, well worth the money for both riding comfort and eye protection, fucken brilliant multi functional set
Mate, if your sweating you are going to get fogging on any eyewear when stopped, even open sunnies will do that

Glasses fog up when moisture or humidity or water condenses on the glass. Methylated spirit repels the moisture and fog for a short while but evaporates quickly but if you clean your glasses every day with metho you will get better results than wasting your money on expensive glasses that don't work.

Seems the consensus is that the fancy anti-fog glasses/goggles still fog up when you're stopped.

Though I like Colstah's suggestion to just pull away at lights half blind and enjoy the mystery!

I'm gonna try the spray(s) on existing goggles and glasses. But then, on an upcoming US visit where I discovered a harley dealership and some Indy shops are not too far from my hotel, I'm gonna splurge on some fancy anti-fog, photochromic glasses, watch them fog up at lights when I get back, and blame you lot for not being decisevly against them. It's all your fault.

None of my glasses (Some cheap, some dear) fog up when I'm on the road.
Even of a night in Sydneys peak hour Traffic and its raining. Never fog up. Can't see anything though.
