Is any one using a Speed's Performance Plus re-usable oil filter. What are your opinions or thoughts on these. Want to use it on my 09 Fatboy

mainly want to change because the housing of the filter acts like an oil cooler and apparently are much more efficent than paper filters

I stick to the reliable disposable ones and have an oil cooler collar sitting on top to assist with oil cooling. So I buy the plain black disposable filters which are a few bucks cheaper.

    Available at:

Apparently they're the same ones Harley used to sell.

There's a product review post on this forum for them, started by retroman from memory.

Odin I use a black one that looks like that one, have done for many years and will continue to use it for many more to come judging from its present state, sounds like you have looked into the pros an cons a bit, mine is 22 micron absolute, that's good enough for me.

I use the PC FLO version, K and P, K&N, also make em. All good, different pricing. That one you mention is a pretty good price.

The advantages listed are fair dinkum and work as they claim. Magnets are a plus, no bypass is a plus, seeing what they filter is a plus.

Bit of extra time involved with oil change cleaning the filter, but if you're conscious of what's going on in the lube department it's well worth it.

Change ya oil as often as ya like and where ever ya like and don't hafta make sure ya bought another can or two before hand.

Takes a few changes ta ( what, about 5 ? ) ta get even with throw away cans, then after that there's no cost.

Best of all, ya get ta see what shit the filter is collecting from the donk.

P.S.    and I've used the collars too, got a couple sittin on the shelf now, they do work, but these filters are better again with cooling.

I recommend them for reason already mentioned

Makes sure you do it up tight and a spare filter would be the go to speed oil change up a bit

I run a black one with polished accents it looks so pretty . My filter sits near my left inner thigh and I noticed a heat drop when idling in traffic .

i use a K&P on my dragracing Dyna only because i can check in side every time to see whats going on or if anything is coming off these have a magnet also in them , i ground off da fin's for less weight not worried about cooling effect as she only run's a 1/4 mile @ a time , no problems with it
