    Hi guys I have just bought a 2009 fatbob and I am thinking of installing a 106 or 107 kit, S&S or Revolution. Has anyone had either of these kits installed and to what success. I will look at some head work and cams and probably a set of LSR 2 into 1 pro pipes, heavy breather etc. Any thoughts or feedback would be great.

    I did a heap of reading on USA forums and there were some issues with the revolution kits which may have been fixed by now.

    The s&s 106/107 kits are very similar but have diff pistons. The 106 uses s&s branded pistons with a flat top and short skirt. The 107 piston is a cp dome top piston. If using oem head gaskets and not touching the heads the 106 kit sets compression at about 10 whilst the 107 is about 10.4:1. Important to know for choosing your cams unless doing head work and or changing head gasket size and then you can set your compression to whatever you like. When researching the s&s 106 kit some people were reporting issues with the pistons too.

    The s&s kits are not necessarily ready to install out of the box as is claimed. Take the kit to a machine shop to check over and measure bores, piston rings etc

    When searching forums and google on these kits search for problems with the kits.

    Internet chatter can be misleading, the S&S kits did have an issue on a batch some years back but the sets I have fitted have measured up within spec and are still running around, one in particular cops a flogging, what are you chasing from your build?

    I measured everything before fitting my S&S 106 kit, everything was in spec, done about 10,000 pretty hard L's and it hasn't missed a beat.
    Had the heads off recently and bores are still like new.
    Are you doing it yourself or having a shop do it?

    Yes rings need to be gapped for sure, this was noted in the included instal instructions with my kit, are you saying it wasn't with yours Fatbat?

    Thanks guys for the info, very helpfull, I will be doing some work myself but will be getting headwork and any maching done by someone else. I will also get him to check all crucial measurements like deck height, ring gap, comp ratio, etc. I want the bike to pull hard right through midrange to top end, but still ride good around town so I know cam selection will play a big part in that. Anyway thanks for the feedback.

    Any of you guys who have had these kits fitted can you tell me what cams you used and if you had them dyno tuned what sort of HP and torque figures you are getting

    Daggs, Instructions?! Wasn't even aware! Haha

    My cams are in my signature block. I went with s&s ezy starts as my heads are oem without compression releases so I wanted the ezy start feature.

    Devo, Oem heads, throttle body and injectors on my bike restricts the hp and got me 110 f/lb and 100 hp. I'm happy though and power delivery is smooth. No oil use at all. Dyno tuned at Canberra Harley Davidson.

    If I'd used the 106 kit without headwork and oem thick head gaskets I'd have used the s&s 570 cams. Having compression releases opens up your cam options.

    I used 585 easy start cams, stock heads & TB , dyno got 97hp, 115tq.

    The 585's were awesome

    Watch all the S&S 4 step program videos on YouTube before you do anything, I watched them over and over, great videos.
    I still watch them now just sometimes. Fuel moto has a heap of good videos too all broken down into different stages..

    Thanks again this is the kind of info I am chasing, from guys who have done it already. The 100HP sounds really achievable for not a lot of coin so happy about that

    not sure about the "not a lot of coin" comment lol

    to crack 100hp you will generally have to do heads, once you do heads you might look at TB and injectors, maybe a new pipe.... oh clutch might need work on and on it goes but great fun!!

    Daggs I realise to some it might sound like a lot , but if you compare to buying a complete new engine and swapping everything over its not that bad, and I picked up the fatbob pretty cheap so I figure I can lash out a little. Could spend more if I could sell off a few bikes but the market is hard at the moment.

    You can get to, or close to 100 hp without head work and throttlebody upgrade if you choose the right cam and have a good exhaust. But peak hp isn't the be all and end all for most street use. Torque in the midrange was my goal. 

    If you're on a budget there are some cheap cams on eBay in Australia right now. A pair of se211 cams which are similar but lower lift than the s&s585 and also a set of andrews 57h but these would be more suited to a cr of no more than 10:1.

    Fatbat I have 211 cams in my 2006 superglide it has a 1550 kit and pipes and supertuner and it goes a lot harder than the 1584 fatbob, so good advice, thanks

    Ok so after a lot of info chasing i ended up getting a set of 103 barrels and heads for bugger all. The heads are going off to get done and i will get the rest of the parts i need. Probably go with the easy start 585 cams, new hc pistons, the only thing i cant really decide on is the pipes. Most people i talk to are saying d&d fatcats but i really like the lsr propipe, has anyone used these or have any info

    Finally my bike went in for surgery on monday heads came back ported and bigger valves and springs, got the s&s 585 cams and had the barrells bored to 106" 10.5 to 1 s&s pistons and picked up a set of vance and hines 2 into 1 pro pipes, hoping for some good figures, thanks to all for good advice
