Hi Bilko, Thanks for the reply. On mine the horn bell mouth mounting ring was corroded through almost all round so I sent it to "Taff The Horn" in Sth Wales UK but he didn't have anything that could replace it so sent it back. What I did was cut a ring of brass shim, tinned it and the inside of the bell mouth securing ring and soldered them together. This way soldering up the holes from the outside stopped the solder from falling through the holes. Once the solder was over all the holes I cleaned it up level with the original surface, primed it and painted it in black. Worked out great, you wouldn't know any difference from the original. Then I checked it out on 6 volts and she works fine!!! I just received a new after market pogo stick seat support rod but fitting it into the frame it just drops straight down so not sure what is missing or wrong as its too low to give any spring travel. Still waiting for the supplier to get the tanks....can't get it painted till they get here. Cheers. Gerry

OK got my tinware back from the panelbeater. Recerived a pair of repo tanks from Europe and have sent them off to the painter. Some parts I had got undercoated with powder coat and the painter said he could paint over it with the final colour after wiping the frame and forks with thinner which softens the powder coat and gives a good key for the top coat....we shall see. I am awaiting a decal for the battery box which the painter said he will send off to get vinyl stickers copied off them as he prefers those to the water transfer type. Also getting the clutch and rear wheel sprocket made as I can't find them anywhere, the engine sprocket will have to do as is as its bonded to a rubber shock absorber and I don't know where I could find one. Another couple of weeks and I should have the painting done and start the final assembly hopefully. Waiting for the dynamo/magneto to come back from overhaul and I can't get the exhaust made up as the exhaust bloke wants the bike assembled to be able to fit it properly. Will get it ceramic coated when ready, in black. Only other thing I am stumped on is the ammeter which is too far gone. Watch this space :-)

    Cheers Gery

Hi all, Got the tinware back from the painters yesterday and looks good now I have started the assembly. I took the wheels and tyres (tires) with the tinware and asked the painter if he could fit the tyres for me. He had a go at one but gave up after trying his best, about a third of the bead to fit still into the rim, so I modified a sash clamp by welding a plate onto the fixed foot and a plate at rightangles to the adjustable foot with a radius to go against the bead. Managed after a lot of sweat and tears to get the wheel and tyre fitted together....now I have to have a go at the other bloody thing! Wish me luck. Still awaiting the dynamo/distributor and the chap thats overhauling it had a problem on assembly where it doesn't show a charge so he has sent the armature and field coils plus housing to the rewinder to check why no charge. At the moment I am cleaning out all the paint from the threaded parts and plain holes on the frame so I can get things moving. will post some pics later. Cheers Gerry

Been a long drawn out process believe me. Just waiting for the dynamo/distributor to come back from overhaul and maybe a couple of weeks more work and she should be ready to run........that's if I'm brave enough to try a foot clutch and a left hand throttle. lol  Cheers

Hi Mark and Bruce, Thanks for the good words, much appreciated. I think this is the 6th reno' I've done so far, first was a Suzuki Pop-up headlight Katana of 1964 vintage, got rid of that even though a great bike but too low on the bars foir my poor old back, Sold that and bought a trailer load of rusty bits of a BSA C15FT Trials Pastoral 1965, that one took near 7 years to find all the bits that were missing. It was made in UK but never offered for sale there as it was made as a bike to round up sheep or cattle or whatever. Finished that and bought another trailer load of bits which was a BSA 1959 A10 650cc Golden Flash, still trying to get that bloody thing to run right for the last three years!! In between all that I brought a WWII BSA M20 1942 side valve back from the dead for a friend of my son. Finished in Desert colours. Now with the Pup on its way to the finish line I am in the process of bringing another BSA 350cc single B40 of 1967 vintage which was originally made for the Australian Army but sold new as a Rough Rider as the army didn't want it. I bought the frame locally and the engine from a friend who found it at a swap meet interstate, so I renovated the engine before I actaully found the frame, and was going to try it in the 250cc Pastoral, but when I checked the engine number I found it matched the frame!!! So I had no choice but to try and find everything else, which meant everything other than the frame and engine. Still looking for a set of forks and yokes, same as B25 and A65 BSA's.......keeps me out of mischief eh? Cheers  Gerry

Hi Fellas, Firstly may I wish you all a VERY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR. Secondly the Pup is at the exhaust manufacturer's as he won't make up the repo exhausts until he has the bike. Once they are made I shall have them ceramic coated in black for durability and heat disipation. Still haven't got the dynamo/distributor back from the renovator as yet but paitence is a virtu (as I used to tell my kids many years ago) lol. Although not really relative to this forum, I managed to pick up a rolling frame and wheels for a BSA B25 of 1968 vintage locally and the forks and front wheel are exactly what I need for the BSA army B40 but have to return the frame and rear wheel to the seller which I don't need. Once grit blasted and painted they will be fitted and the B40 should begin to look like a real bike. The tank will have the decal for the Royal Army Service Corps in memory of my Dad who served in that Regiment during the Second World War. I was born in Kent UK very near Biggin Hill fighter base and when I got the chance used to creep out of the shelter to watch the dog fights above until my Mum grabbed me by my collar (or was it the arse of my pants) and dragged me back inside. Cheers and hope you all had a great Xmas as I did with sons and grand kids.
