You will still get movement/vibration through the extension, mine is in the bottom draw in the shed.

Thanks for that Mickle. Good advice!!

No luck today. On right side, camera mount wants to unscrew. (on big bumps) Rubber grommet adds to vibration. Video smooths out OK at speed but warbly at idle. 1080 @25 fps wide. Going to swap sides of fairing, take grommet away replace with lock washer or add locktite and try again. Any other ideas? Reduce FOV?

Steelo, you haven't failed, you just eliminated one option.

Maybe make a bracket that comes off the side of the forks/blinker, that was going to be my next option, before I gave up.

I thought a helmet mount would be quick and effective? But then again I've never dabbled with this sort of stuff

Friends.
The Gopro mounted on a ram arm on the bolt on the edge of the fairing didn't work out. Just TOO much vibration (as predicted by Mickle). I've moved it to the centre fairing bolt using a standard camera GoPro mount. (review and pics to follow)
HOWEVER, what it would have captured yesterday was my demise on the tourer on the first ride in a couple of weeks.
I was distracted and just had to get out of the house. I had some things on my mind.
I was heading up the freeway, doing a reasonable speed, went to overtake a slower car and just did not see the car overtaking me on the right. It could have been really nasty.
PLEASE take care and don't ride if distracted.

Here you are with a touring bike with little vibes in the mirrors and this happens! Glad you didn't become a hood ornament.

You croweaters are two hard on yourselves. WA drivers are by far the worst, followed by Victorians LOL. But your beer??? Not as bad as that XXXX. At a state of origin match in Brisbane many years ago I saw a few thousand cans of XXXX thrown onto the field when the crowd didn't like an umpires decision. Back when Wally Lewis was playing. No-one ever throws good beer away so even the banana benders don't like it.
Here in sandgroper country the beer is fantastic but the drivers are crap, officially. So arrogant and generally bad mannered compared to the rest of Australia and other countries, particularly the US and UK where I have driven many 1000's of km.
Never a week goes by in SW WA without someone pulling out in front of us or trying to take our space. Good for my riding skills I guess as the brain is calculating exit and avoidance strategies about 10 times/second. We also have this horrible trend where, although illegal, smart-arses stay in the right lane on our freeways and deliberately block traffic for miles by going slow next to vehicles in the left lane.
All good fun , I guess.....
And Steelo, glad you are enjoying your ride. Me and the better half have done 23000km on our Ultra since beginning of 2016 with 8 months of that not riding due to me getting crook. Went from Bunbury to Kalbarri for a few days some weeks back, towing a trailer(cringe), Loving it.

Well done CV. Glad you are enjoying and making use of your bike as well. You could get into a mileage competition with CB and Mickle. Seems these bike love to be ridden long distances in any conditions and I am getting a sense of that. I've done nearly 10K since I got it early this year. As the mileage of the bike increases, it feels like the engine is really freeing up and I am enjoying that. I'd love to get the missus on board a little more and I know this sounds funny but I'd like to be able to talk to her over the intercom when we ride together. I have the 4.3 BB, brilliant when riding by yourself, but it only has a VOX enabled intercom facility which is rubbish when you have loud pipes.
I have found the NSW drivers to be the most considerate and competent. Motorists hogging the right lane is a curse in every state though. Keep up the good work.

It's great having the missus on the back. It's rare I ride solo. We use the intercom all the time. My noise levels aren't that high as I only have SE slipons so VOX is ok at speed limit but not much more. The handling mods to the bike have made it almost fantastic (for what it is)and it handles our overloaded state brilliantly but is still really good solo. With the Monroe air shocks controlled by handlebar switch and pressure gauge I find I can fine tune ride for any conditions on the go and the extra 2" travel is a godsend. On the Kalbarri trip we weighed close to 800kg with the trailer with the bike at about 650 of that, which is overloaded. Can't be helped, missus and I weigh 200kg between us and luggage up to 50kg including trailer hitch down force. it handled brilliantly and completely predictable. Couldn't believe it. I thought it was going to be whale.
Glad to see you doing the k's. After a bit these Ultra's seem to get really addictive as they are so nice to ride and you just keep finding excuses to ride.

Morning friends and forumites.
Just an update.
Yesterday depressed and suffering badly from a cold, I took the bike to ABW HD for the Ultras 16k service. Boy, what a morning.
Caught up with Allan Morrison, their mechanic and all round great guy who hurt his back in a stunt riding fall in the March Adelaide Clipsal 500. He was scooting around the showroom in his wheelchair (temporary he says) and his story of hard work and dedication to his recovery was quite inspirational. If you feel like making a donation, Allan has a
gofundme
page. (i found it myself)
I had the bike serviced and a couple extras attended to. I mentioned off hand to Dan from service about wanting to see what it'd be like (noise wise) to have standard pipes back on the bike. Before I knew it, they had a pristine S/H set fitted up (at no charge) and I'm assessing those over the next week or so with a view to making a deal. The bike was delivered to them dirty and came back sparking clean after the service at what I thought was a very reasonable price. They couldn't do enough for me. Drop in to say hello and check out all the shiny new and second hand bikes on show.
Went for a quick enjoyable blast up through the hills on my way home. The bike was brilliant, quiet but still had a sporty bark. It was nice to ride and listen to the stereo, engine and surroundings without suppressing the symphony with earplugs. More to follow when the weather is finer, I feel better and can get out. Cheers

Haha. Thanks China. Priceless. In truth, had I the coin, would have gone for a blingy full on CVO like yours with all the bells and whistles, and STILL complained about the noise.
It might have been the cold and flu medication that broke me
