Gents and gentettes, some of you probably remember me posting a while back about some parts I was fitting to my old 94' Fatty. Well finished her off last week and had one nervous moment on start up when I could hear a knocking sound. Having a closer listen and feel, the noise was coming from the front exhaust pushrod tube. Some of the parts I had fitted were new lifters and adjustable pushrods. I was pretty careful and took my time re assembling, but thought shit what have I done wrong. So I collapsed the front exhaust pushrod tube, backed off the adjustment all the way on the pushrod and redid the adjustment again, put it back together, started her up and the same noise. That night I did a bit more googling and found it is common for the larger diameter quickee pushrods #93-5120 to rub on the upper pushrod tubes for the exhaust ( due to the steeper angle the pushrod works on) and the fix was pretty straight forward. Collapse the pushrod tubes (only did exhaust) back off the adjuster and remove pushrod and tube. When you have a look, you'll see the witness marks where the pushrod contacts the bottom of the top pushrod tube, then grab the dremel and carefully trim about 10mm off the bottom of the top tube, lightly chamfer and smooth off, then refit and adjust rods and bingo, no more contact.
Other than that, bike feels good, with more poke
cheers
