What he said I suppose or rip the heads off for some releases ??? std starter goes alright on a 124 @ 11:1 cold bit shithouse hot.

1 step colder in the plugs is good anyway. Didn;t believe the difference till I seen the dyno chart in person..

Maybe you could change the clutch ring gear to 89 to 93 evo type apparently this was a common thing to
Do with the later hot rod evos as it was a different ratio can't remember exactly what it was

I put an S&S 124 in my Herritage with an S&S starter motor and had huge issues trying to start it, destryed 2 batteries and the starter motor.

Spoke to various people and was informed not to touch the timing as it would void any warranty (not that I think any warranty claim would be easy with this motor plus being in Australia) so we tried various things such as bigger earth and start button on the starter motor all to no avail.

Eventually thought.......fuck it.......time to play with the timing. Obviously checked it before playing around with it and it was far too advanced. After spending half an hour going through the steps of finding top dead centre found on the S&S website then re-setting it the motor fired instantly and have not had an issue since. Have gone a month without starting it and no trickle charger and it will fires instantly.

After destroying the S&S starter motor I installed one of the All Balls starters.

replaced the 2 yr old Decka battery with a stock harley battery turned down the timing on da twin-tec module box fatten up da idle jet 2 sizes , starts evey time cold or hot now , has a modified S&S super D carb with 1 " extension + 3/8" fibre block heat displacement , with 2 thunder jets, with a 3" element  S&S vented teardrop air cleaner with a built-in ram stack also , plenty of air & fuel , built & ported heads & modified by BPM , set-up to 11.44 c.ratio , starts now real good on stock starter motor  , when run - in i will take her to da dragstrip  again to see as a 95 c.i.er i did 11.1 sec E.T. back then but average 11.3/4,       haveagreatweekend
