Hey gurus,
This must be covered somewhere on the site, but stuffed if I can find a straight answer.
From the car world, I'm familiar with performance headers being 'tuned length' so as to provide equal backpressure to each cylinder, even out temperatures etc.
I'm trying to find a new exhaust for my 48 - something different to the V&H out of the box pipes that everyone seems to have (no offence!) and like the idea of 2 into 2 pipes that end at the same point and turn outwards 45deg or so. This clearly makes it more dificult to match the length of the pipes. Hence my question is - how crutial is it to have tuned length pipes, or rather, is the benefit on a V twin Harley worth the trouble? The front cylinder must run cooler than the rear given it gets more airflow... so does that negate the benefit of tuned pipes somewhat?
I'm thinking of having a custom set made up if I can't find what I'm after elsewhere, and wondering how to design it.
Cheers!
