    G'day all,

Just wondering if some folks out there know, I need to replace my rear drive belt because it's got a stone thought it and I was thinking of going for the narrower belt and sprocket that are fitted to the 2001 to 2005 does anyone out there know if this is possible conversion.

Back in 2001 you could get a narrow belt and sprocket kit but that part number (40264-00) is obsolete now days and in the description says the sprocket is machined specifically for the narrow belt.

    Cheers S

    Does yours have the 1 1/8 belt or the 1 1/2. Can't see why you can't I went from 1 1/2 10 1 1/8 on both my
Evo softails . Get the thinner pulley and belt and more than likely a spacer for the pulley you will just have to work
What spacer width you need Vulcan engineering will have one or rollies

The Centre Hole is also different, Pre 99 is 50 mm and 2000 and up 56 mm

    Cheers,
Thanks for that "perthhog", yeah my ol girls got the 1.5" belt which is all most as wide as what the tyre is lol, checked out Vulcan and they have a spacer that allows you to put 2000 up pulleys on 1999 and older wheels, just got to get a 1/4" one to push the belt away from the tyre but also keep the alignment right so I can fit a 150 section tyre as per the 2000 to 2005 model Dyna's, have checked the gearbox sprocket and it's the same part number as mine up to 2005. I have had the rear rim upgraded to 3.5' aluminium rims and S/S spokes so that will handle the wider tyre, it even makes the 130 tyre fill the space more till I've only got about 1/8' between the tyre wall and belt. Got Great Southern Harley on the case to see if they can get some sort of kit because I'm not real fond paying UPS in the states great wades of money for freight for something that small that it would fit in ya pocket.
Also thanks to you walka for you valuable input, just ordered meself a K&L Airlift to help with the work.

    Cheers

    G'day folks,

Heres a bit of an update on how the belt and pulley replacement is going on the ol girl, first up I got me self one of them K & L MC 615R bike lift and to say this was the best money Ive spent on bike stuff in years would be doing the lift injustice its F$@%*%g bloody brilliant.

I had a 2004 Fat boy pulley so I removed the original pulley and bolted up the Fatty pulley, which bolted up without a hitch or the need of spacers, refitted the wheel and checked the distance between the inside edge of the swing arm to the outside edge of the pulley and it showed 5mm. Prior to removing the wheel and original pulley from the bike I took some measurements between the swing arm and pulley and it showed 13mm also I laied the original pulley outside edge down on a flat surface and measured up through the centre hole to the mating surface and got 31mm so that indicates the Fatty pulley needed 8mm removed from the mating surface to be spaced the correctly.

I decided not to go with the Fatty pulley even though it is a 70 tooth pulley, the same as the WG pulley, so I bit the bullet and ordered a 2001 belt and pulley through Thunder Tech and once I received the pulley I broke out the chisel, hacksaw and file and removed 5mm from the new pulley, nah not really I got Deano to organise it. But during the dismantling of the primary drive and removal the the clutch hub I found a problem with the splines on the clutch hub so getting that replaced as well as the ring gear. The bike has only had the primary drive removed once and that was at it's 1500k service due to a leaking clutch seal so not sure what has caused the damage but have been told that tightening up the clutch nut with a rattle gun can cause that type of damage.

The reassembly has started so once shes done I will post some more pictures if anyones interested.

    Cheers
