Twinky Engine Question

    Hi guys,

I am not overly familiar with the Twin Cam range of Harley's, however sold my 98 Lowrider today and am looking for the next project. Love my Dyna's and have stumbled across a 2005 that I can pick up for an absolute song; problem is she has nearly 100,000 on her and from all reports those TC88a engines are not renowned for their reliability.  That being said, I keep seeing 103ci enings out of late model Streetbobs pop up for around $3k and it got me thinking.   Can I take my 2005 Dyna and stick a 103ci straight in without a lot of fucking around or not.

I'm not an engine offcianardo so looking for some input, anyone got any thoughts on this?

    Cheers

    Waz

P.S - Failing this, I have a 1999 Softail Springer lined up so I may end up on that before the week is out!

Mate if they're looked after the TC88 are as good as any engine and they respond pretty good to mods. I believe any TC from a later bike with the 6spd is different from the compensator onwards and will not fit without major mucking around. Probably not worth the coin it would cost. Better to sink your $$ into a full engine rebuild if it is really needed. Then you'll get more power and know that the engine is nice and fresh.

That's my take on it anyway. I could be wrong about the 103ci I'm sure there are some more knowledgeable persons on this forum that could confirm whether or not this is true.

That's a shame mate as the twin cams do up nicely. Had my engine worked on a few months ago and am so pleased with the results. And mine is only a mild build. They really are a good engine when a few of the early flaws are fixed. (Easy and cheap enough) For around $5K you could have a nicely warmed over fresh engine that would be reliable for another couple of hundred thousand K's. But either way mate enjoy yourself.
