    Good Morning Gent & Gentettes..

Having problems with my 96 FXDWG,  it seems to be misfiring on the rear cylinder.

started noticing the problem late last year (Octoberish) on warm up it was coughing allot and taking up to 15min to get running properly. It got worse very quickly so I gave it a general service and noticed that the rear spark plug was quite a bit worse than the front. Anyhow the service seemed to fix the problem. But about 600-700Km's it started up again..

First thing I did this time was check the plugs again, front was fine, rear was heavily covered with carbon, changed the plugs and run some carby cleaner through it and it ran fine again for another 600-700.

So this time when it started happening I thought I would actually try and fix whatever is causing this,  I have taken the tank off and cleaned it out, including the fuel filter and petcock, cleaned the carby, oil, oil filter, air filter and plugs. Last night I started her up let it warm up and fine-tuned the carby. it seemed to be running (sounding) fine but I thought I would still check. I put hand up to the back end of the lower pipe and the bursts of exhaust were consistent and strong with every stroke, I then did the same with the upper pipe (Rear cylinder) and they were not. it would give out a strong burst then a few week ones then nothing the another strong burst, and generally be very inconsistent.

so... problem found.. Now how to fix??

I was thinking maybe it is a spark issue? Check the plug leads and coil??  any ideas??

    Cheers all.

Do comp test on both cyl and see what the numbers are.

Could be the coil, but if its a stock twin fire then I would expect the problem to be in both cylinders. 90% of the problems I have like this are either the coil is buggered or on its way out, or the ignition pickup in the nosecone is on its way out.

    Just a thought,
I have a small base gasket leak in the rear cylinder, do you think this could be related tot he problem?

Are the pipes the same length ? If not it won't be the same , do as advised comp test at operating temp wide open throttle fulley charged battery same amount of rpm front and back cylinder and if one is a fair bit lower do a leak down to see wear it's going if you have access to one
