Harley Assist

Harley Assist is great peace of mind IF you live in suburbia!  Over here in the West, out in the dessert,  it's a whole different story.

My FLHTK suffered the dreaded coolant leak.  The dealer where I purchased it from suggested I not ride the bike back to the shop and went so far as to tell me that Harley Davidson has issued a DO NOT RIDE order on the defect.  I asked if they could assist in getting the bike to the shop, but I was too far away, but did say if I could get it into Perth they could pick it up and take to the shop.

Well, that's all well and good, but, I was over 530km from the dealer's workshop (400k's to Perh).

I rang Harley Assist and explained my dilemma and they were very helpful, until they told me that they only cover transport costs to a maximum of $550.00.  They did a ring around for me and rang me back to tell me a tow operator would come out from Perth and it was going to cost $1,000.00, or cost me $450.00 after they paid their share.  I found a local tow truck driver here that would do the job for $500.00, but because he wasn't on Harley Assist books they could not pay him!

After a lot of internet research and observation of when the coolant leakage actually occured, I eventually (cautiously) rode the bike to the dealer with no ill effects.

Harley Assist can be a trap for young players, perhaps imagine a simple flat tyre or worse still, catastrophic engine failure in a remote location, it can still cost you a fortune, even with factory warranty that you may not have planned on!

    Ride On,

    Pete

I have RACQ Ultra membership. Have never been let down. they have towed me back to Qld twice without a whimper. Can't say enough about the service. Forget HD assist, go with your local car club.

I've got Allianz roadside assist. It's a fair whack cheaper than Harley assist and nrma.
Mate with a brand new bike got a years worth of Harley assist as part of his purchase deal. He's had to use it twice and both times Allianz roadside assist have attended as subcontractors for Harley assist. Lucky for him his Harley assist is free or you'd just pay the cheaper rate of Allianz in the first place and get the same service. For those that are wondering, the roadside assist blokes don't know anymore about Harleys or bikes than your normal car mechanic or auto elec.

Pauly from memory Allianz assist cost either $60 or $80 per year. I'm pretty sure it was around $60

Harley Assist is a dodgy service run by Allianz insurance. They dont employ any HD technicians or MC mechanics.

If they arrange a tow, your bike is dropped off at some random depot until HD service is open.

As per my previous post, its an insurance compny that will scam you with the fine print.

It was the main difference between the Allianz and Harley Assist, i think the platinum offer from Allianz was a max distance of 100kms per tow metrĂ³ and 200kms per tow regional (allianz platinum $169, Harley Assist $110)

From Peter's experience it looks like $1000 is going to get you a fair tow

And then there is the argument over getting your bike taken to your dealer versus the nearest dealer.

    Cheers,
    Surly

There no obligation to have work done at any of the dealers, May as well get other dealer to go and pick it up in van

Wait with bike out the front

I had to use Harley Assist a month ago. It was a very pleasant experience. Took 90 minutes from phone call to pick up(I live 50kms from shop) bloke arrived in a van lowered the floor pushed bike in tied it down and was gone. We only have one dealer here so no choice in where it gets fixed.
