Start up , gear up , and off you go . Obviously not race pace from go .

As Tim said, start and ride, most modern bikes and cars don't require warming up before riding/driving.

As Tim said, just dont rev the crap out of it for the first few klm.

EFI makes sure idle is a little fast to keep oil pressure ip and top end lubricated. I leave my other brand efi bikes idling for about 60 secs and my HD usually 90 secs. Then, like all have said, don't rev shit out of it, but wait till normal operating temp. Most wear happens when cold, so consider the lesser of two evils ... idle to warm up or ride???

Don't know if twin cams use throughbolts like the Evos, warming them up so that the heads and cylinders expand guards against blown base gaskets. I like to warm them up by keeping a hand on the fins until they're too hot to touch.

Gear on, ignition on and then go. Easy first couple of k's.

the EFI will run fine cold, my Ol Tube frame Buell CV44 carb will run fine when cold too, but my motor got a tighter swish higher Comp.

but does not matter , the motor is all alloy air cooled, so it is not on full torque spec's when cold, & no matter how much education they put into EFI it can not change that fact.

So untill your motor warms up the head gasket does not have full Torque, motor warms the alloy expands , then it's right, but you can ride straight off just take it easy for first K or so. you can get away with it on stock motor but not High performance. i will always warm mine up before riding off, also motor starts making more power when oil & motor is at optimal runing temps. all EFI does is add air & fuel the ECU would have knock sensor & you could have custom ignition curve but all that education won't expand motor unless the self heat? they seem to run very hot these days.

I never really felt the need to warm up an aircooled fuel injected bike. Idling just gets it hot. I just don't flog it cold.

You'll find that most EFI's idle just a whisker higher when first started. By the time youve put your skid lid and gloves on you should be ready to go, but as others have said, take it easy for a bit, don't go asking for full power straigh off.

In my opinion, it takes a few klicks, or 10 or so minutes for the internals and oil to warm up, cam lobes, lifters, and crank are my thoughts.

Crank is press fit and not completely "locked" until journals are expanded to operating temp as far as I'm concerned,

think about how long it takes for crank to reach operating temp before giving it a handful.

I usually warm mine up for about 1 minute (fuel injected) and take the long way through town before I hit the highway cos when I hit the highway I just cant help myself

When I first start my EFI Sporty in the morning; I'll go and get changed into my gear and load my bags onto the bike. By the time I am ready to roll the idle speed has dropped from that very fast start-up one to the more normal one. Would be about 5 mins for the entire warm-up I suppose.

I only give it 2-3 mins after work though as I'm very close to the motorway and recon she can finish warming up on the road.

EFI, I could only dream of an EFI engine

my old carb job gets started in the en-richer, then after about 5 seconds, the knob is pushed in and I hold the revs up about 1000, basically to keep it running, I back out of the carport and ride up the street conservatively.
My bike wont idle until it is hot

No need to warm a modern engine up for normal road use, besides leaving it on tick over does nothing for heating up the gearbox tyres etc and is bad for the environment we all live in.

I start mine and keep it on tick over for less than 30 seconds then ride, the only reason I wait a little is to let the oil get around the motor. Then as most have already said take it easy until it's warmed up fully.

I wonder how many polar bears have died of heat exhaustion due to your excessive warm up time Cartoon head. A 3 second warm up could possibly save a polar bears life. just saying
